Audi On Pace For New Worldwide Sales Record In 2006
From January to November 2006, Audi sold 833,000 vehicles worldwide, an increase of 8.7 percent compared with the same period of last year (January – November 2005: 766,629). Audi also set a new sales record in November: 75,250 vehicles were handed over to customers around the world. This equates to an increase of 8.1 percent against the same month in 2005. Audi has consequently just achieved its best ever November figures and the best eleven-month period in the company’s history.

“Audi is close to achieving a new record result for 2006 as a whole. Our brand and our models impress our customers. This year, we will sell 900,000 vehicles worldwide and as a result we are heading for our eleventh sales record in succession”, reported Ralph Weyler, Board Member for Marketing and Sales at AUDI AG.

Audi will also post outstanding results for the German market. The company sold 236,064 vehicles between January and November 2006, an increase of 2.4 percent (2005: 230,452). Audi has thus achieved a market share of 7.6 percent, the highest for the first eleven months of a year since 1980. 23,978 new Audi vehicles were handed over to customers in November, an increase of 4.2 percent.

In the first eleven months, Audi succeeded in selling 376,600 vehicles in Europe excluding Germany, an increase of 7.2 percent (2005: 351,372). In November, Audi likewise posted an increase of 7.2 percent with 28,000 vehicles sold (2005: 26,103).

In the USA, 78,219 models were handed over to customers between January and November, an increase of 5.4 percent. A total of 9,209 units were sold in the month of November, a rise of 16.4 percent.

Audi achieved its highest rates of growth in China (excluding Hong Kong). In the first eleven months, Audi was able to post growth of 53.6 percent in recording total sales of 73,415 models. November was also a positive month with an increase of 11.4 percent to 7,465 units handed over to customers in China.

In terms of specific models, the good sales figures stem from high demand for the Audi A3 (220,050 units, + 9.5 percent), the Audi A4 Cabriolet (26,600 units, + 18.1 percent), the Audi A6 including allroad quattro (215,950 units, + 11.2 percent), the Audi A8 (20,900 units, + 7.1 percent) and the Audi Q7 (45,900 units).

“The market response to our latest model launches – the Audi TT Coupé, the Audi TT Roadster and the Audi R8 – was extremely positive. Our model strategy is bearing fruit and is the basis for our sales success in 2006. We are therefore extremely optimistic in looking ahead to the end of the year”, said Weyler.

Stunning new research just released by JD Power on customer retention in the US - two thirds of Audi owners don't buy Audi next time around - no wonder Audi is an also-ran in the largest luxury market.

Among the brands with the highest retention are Toyota, Lexus and BMW.

Audi "on pace" to set record? Please. Rome was "on pace" to be like a world empire, and what happened to them? HOLLER!

Oh, and Acura is the Emporer, with a gargantuan 100K cars sold in the first eleven months (est), compared to 833K Audis.

But their cars still aren't even close.

A4 > TSX

A6 > RL BY FAR

A8 > Any Acura currently on sale

Q7 > MDX

R8 > NSX, old or new

You can't touch that.

Ha, lol! The only car to semi-fairly compare the TL Type-S to would be the S4- Audi's mid-level performance sedan. It so easily crushes any model TL that it's still not even fair. The TL Type-S is going to have so much torque steer that you're just going to give up and go for the underpowered normal version.

I also don't consider the TL and A4 to be in the same class. The TL and ES350, however, are much closer in size, price and spec. They're basically old people's cars.

S4Cab, your comparison is idiotic.

Try this:

A4 compares to a TL (not a TSX). TL, btw, beat the A4 in the latest C&D comparo. Funny...all your comments bashing a TL. Just shows how low an A4 is.

Comparing an NSX released 15 years ago to an Audi that isn't even out yet. Real smart. Then judging a future unreleased NSX? Even smarter.

Q7 > MDX? Haven't seen any direct comparisons of this. But I guess a real "car-enthusiast" like yourself probably has the inside scoop. Too bad the Q7 is 10 years late to this party.

Oh yea, and Acura RL beat the bloated A6 (v8) recently as well. Here's the summary on the A6: bad brakes and unresponsive throttle, slow, sterile. Sounds first class.

Wonder where you get your ratings from...that's right...you make them up.

Hmm. I owned a TL. I'm not exactly a biased German fan, because I've had many-an-experience with Japanese cars. Albeit, it was a very long time ago- it was a '95 TL. I left Acura because the TL's mediocrity was very disappointing. The new one, while the performance seems impressive on paper, is very much an ES competitor. Please explain the appeal of Acura over Audi for me.

I compared the NSX to the R8 because, if I remember correctly, blueice did the same.

The new MDX hasn't really opened to rave reviews as the Q7 did.

What do you mean, the "latest" C & D article? It was a year ago. Surprisingly, the RL won- so it beat the BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Lexus, etc besides the A6. Otherwise, I haven't seen a comparo in which an RL beat an A6, unless it was purely a six-cylinder article. A6 3.2 is underpowered and boring. A6 4.2 is not.

I like Acura. I just wouldn't consider owning one after owning something better. It's simply a step down.

I support all folks who write the truth about Audi - like Audi's dismay customer retention rates. If existing US customers don't want to buy another Audi, then why the hell should other people?

Merc - Audi in the USA has gone to a whole diffrent market in the last 2 years. Audi had one of the top retentions only 3 years ago when they were giving away every car they had to keep market share. The A6 2.7T S-line was less the $400 a month. That is a A4 payment. Our customers are now BMW and MB customers.

Audi is not playing the subvention game on the A6, A3 or A8. This is hurting sales for existing Audi customers. The old A6 customer can't afford the new cars. The A4 and Q7 are the only cheap Audi leases and will remain that way until the end of 2006 at least. Hopefuly the US dollar will get stronger and AOA can start compeating with the rest of Audi for Market and programs.

Audi is having problems keeping up with demand and the USA is still suffering as a result. Expect Audi Germany to suport AOA more in 2007.

Meanwhile I have 2x RS4s, 2X S6s, 1 S8 that just came off the truck that is available and will all sell for big $$$. If Audi can support the A6 sales we will be bursting at the seams. Last month was a record month for our dealership.

One more thing Audi of American should do a better job with lease retention. They don't do anything to try and keep the customer. There are no release deals. There is no loyality money. There is no letters saying "stay with us"

Interestingly enough, China is creeping up on the US... and very, very quickly.

Audi has sold only 5,000 less cars in China than they have in the US this year.

Unless sales pick up fast with the introduction of all the new models, the US could be come Audi's #2 priority soon, a distant second to the Chinese market share.

I agree Audi has been asleep at the wheel in the US, where customer expectations are much higher than in the rest of the world - and where Audi customers vote with their wallets and buy a competitors vehicle when it comes time to trade-in

Yeah and with customer retention at about 35% Audi will have also lose a lot of the new customers when the cheap cheap lease deals expire.

I love the way Audi trys and fails in the US, kind of like Charlie Brown going to kick the football!

I feel that you're desparate for punches at Audi, but I can see through you.

Merc- this is what happens when you move upmarket and stop selling your sole for market share.

The Audi customer has changed big time in the last 2 years. 2 years ago they were more like a Volvo customer. Today they are more like a german lux brand customer and infact most of our customers have or have had a BMw or MB, or Lexus in the garage

Audi has some mystery about it that attracts buyers (the image) more than BMW's yuppy-ness and Mercedes-Benz's staid-ness (except for the S and CL550 models).

I like facts, and to me auto reviews and most comments on this website are of course opinions. Thing is the measures I am interested in all favor Lexus and BMW, that's why most of my comments appear biased:

Profitability of the manufacturer
Customer satisfaction
Customer retention
Depreciation

On these four measures in the US, Audi is nowhere. So its sales are up a little because of a product added to the portfolio - big deal.

Where the hell do you come up with this idiotic posts? No doubt about it,Audi sales are increasing, but so did other brands (eg.BMW) but to say that Audi has the best image of ANY luxury manufacturer??? That "IMAGE" is created throughout history. And Audi DOES NOT have a luxury car production history.
@S4cabriofoxone:Where can we see the European poll results???

There are two main competitors,Mercedes and BMW.Audi is gaining fast but it will take some time before Audi 's worldwide sales will be equal to Mercedes or BMW.Look at the sales figures.
