I love my 330i but have never really been attracted to the 5.

great news finally, and that also probably means they're going to up the power in the 550i. The 535i would offer virtually identical performance to the 550i otherwise for a whole lot less money, so I'd expect the 550i to get a bump.

now if they'd just offer a 635i in the U.S. like you know they're going to do everywhere else in the world...

The 6 series also sold elsewhere as 630i, thats a lot cheaper, and you can still have all the options installed, I even saw a 630i in a dealer fitted with the M6 body kit and exhaust. Now this is all show but no go.

This car is it, if they can keep it under 60 grand. The new 5 is a nice car but it's too much money and the new 3 has a nicer interior. The 5 is a sweetheart of a car though.

WTF? What's next? 735i, Z4-35i, or even 135i?

I think they'll have to throw those turbo-chargers into the 550i and call it 555i so it can compete with the upcoming RS6. Wait, the M5 is the RS6's competitor. I guess they'll need a M5-turbo to compete with the AMG63 and GS-F since the current M5 is behind the current AMG63 in power, performance, and handling.

735i maybe not in the USA, but in my country they have, 730i, also 520i before.

They are not worried about competing with the RS6 and E550 as much ther are worried about competing with the GS350 which already tops 300+ HORSEPOWER!

lol, the 550 i doesnt compete with the rs6 the m5 does, but i could imagine how much faster an m5 would be twin turbos, im sure though the rs6 will only be as fast an m5 since the s6 is slower, a turbo powered m5 would blow the doors off of an rs6....or even a turbo v8 555i im sure would be just as fast....bu

The 3.0 V6 in the BMW produces 255 hourse, putting a TWIN turbo in it adds ONLY 45 hourses??
I remeber the old Toyota/Nissa 3.0 engines produces 215 houres and with the twin turbos they jumped to 320 houres, that's 105 houres encrease. Maybe the 2nd turbo is fake that's why it produces half the power in the BMW?

BMWs are inline-6 just like the Toyotas and Nissan. I don't think BMW ever got any V6s, at least not mass market.

The Toyotas and Nissans do have better inline-6 than BMWs though. They make more power and torque and have better bulletproof durability. The 2JZ-GTE and 7MGTE for the Toyotas are legendary and so is Nissan's RB26DETT. Those are benchmark inline-6 that BMW just recently caught on. Actualy BMW was even behind Mercedes in inline-6 back during it's day.

A pretty narrow-minded post. In your mind, a BMW 6 is nothing special because a Toyota 6 makes more power? Sorry, but that kind of mentality is just plain wrong and frankly, dumb.

BMW 6's also have a reputation for durability and performance. The car with more horsepower is not always the quickest either. BMW's may not be the most powerful in class, but they certainly are competitive when it comes to performance.

I'd still rather have the 550, cuz im sure it sounds cooler and the 550i badge looks cooler than the 535i badge. UNLESS they off the 535i in all-wheel drive :)

they'll have awd on the 335 sedan in March, coupe late next year, and the 535i probably right from launch.

They will- the 535xi will replace the 530xi, of course. As I'm sure the 528i/xi will replace the 525.

Well, the 4.8 litre V8 in the 550 will be replaced by the Biturbo version of the 4.4 litre V8 in the 545.
It would have a 400+ HP, and 400+ ftlbs of Torque.
There are also rumours that the Biturbo I6 engine will be further tuned by 3-6% to give it the same, weight/power, weight/torque ratio as the 335.

It depends by which measures you are judging and in which markets. Both BMW and Lexus do very well in terms of:
Customer retention
Profitability
Reliability
Customer satisfaction
Low depreciation

These are real measures which Mercedes and Audi tend to flunk, and in the US Lexus tends to rule, with BMW a close second. So you're right, Lexus doesn't compete with most of the Germans, its on a higher plateau.

The N54 engine will go into the 1 series, X3 and X5.
The M devision of BMW for now will continue to be focused on NA engines, so I am not so sure about what the response to the CLK63 AMG and the RS6, however recent comparo shows that the M6 lapped better than the CLK63AMG.
With regards to the 7 series, you will have the following powerplants for North American market:
Biturbo 4.4 litre V8 to power the 750
Biturbo 5.0 litre V10 to power higher models like the 760.
As for the Z4, there is no indication that it may get the N54 engine yet- but who knows, that may change any moment.

Is this 3.0 TT engine going to be on all the BMW models??

This engine is fabulous! I'm glad they're going to implement it (I hope) across the lineup. One of the best upgrades to the sweet inline six in years.

this must mean that they are going to upgrade the v8 as well, the 535i's performance will probably be very close to the 550i's judging by how fast the 335i, ill probably get the new 535i, performance with the low gas mileage of the v8, perfect bmw

BTW, saw on the BMW site that they still make the 525i. Any one that buys it must really want to pretend that they are rich. The poor thing only has 215 hp/185 lb-ft of torque and lots of weight to carry around. The 525xi has even more weight to move. [This is reference to US only as the 525 makes some sense in Europe with higher priced fuel]

I hate the 525i. It's simply the most pathetic BMW ever sold in the US.

My neighbor had one for about two years. I just laughed when he got it. WHY can't you get a damn 530i???

Now he drives a silver E320, and his wife has a silver X5 3.0i. Can you say BORING? They're the two most unequivocally boring suburban cars in my town.

Like I said, it makes some sense in Europe. But here with cheap fuel it doesn't matter. The EPA even rates the 525i and 530i with the same exact fuel economy. Both have the same basic engine just one is a bit simpler. The 525i runs to over 50,000 and is powered by a 215 hp engine with only 185 pounds of torque. That is weak for 3 liters of displacement.

no BMW is cheap guys. but alwasy worth it.

the new 2008 5 series is on the official BMWUSA site. after reading the details for the 535i & 535xi, ask yourself is there a better midsize luxury sedan.

Can we get 325hp atleast. I mean 300 is so yesterday.
