  GM Confirms 2008 Saturn Astra
The recently launched Opel Astra will make its way stateside as the Saturn Astra, GM has confirmed. In a move that surprised no-one, GM said the hatchback would officially unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show in February. The Saturn Astra will be nearly identical to the 2007.5 Opel Astra, unveiled this week at the Bologna Motor Show in Italy. It will be sold in the United States and Canada in three-door and five-door configurations.

I hope so, but will it make any money for GM? Why does the Saturn brand even exist? Why not just call it the Opel Astra in the US?

MercBasher, because GM created Saturn back in 1990 and have spent millions promoting Saturn.

You know when you buy a business the name is worth a lot of money and if you change it then it's like starting all over building up clients.

the Astra will be a big hit, but not enough to make an impact... I really was certain that GM would do away with Saturn...

The 5 door will be a rent-a-car. I'm not bashing it, but i can already see it. Love them both though. Looks very promising

Hopefully.

No, it's going to be the Saturn ASTRA Redline. The Aura is the sedan- but I'm sure that will have a Redline version too (I wonder if they can cram a Northstar V8 in there?).

People bash GM for doing this kind of thing. Have a Saturn thats really an Opel. Who cares.. If Opel has a great car (remember we are talking GM not BMW) why not bring it over under the Saturn name. As long as we the people in the market place have another good car to chose from we win.. I will take the 3 door turbo please and manual trans
