Toyota has had a lot more recalls than VW this year.

Hmm on a percentage basis I don't know - 60,000 VAG products on this recall, isn't that the equivalent of a full year's sales for VW and Audi in the US?

Audi is going to sell about 100,000 cars in the US this year (a bit less), and VW will sell over 200,000. Not gargantuan amounts- but that's what makes VW different.

I think the Toyota recall is much more dangerous. When the Check Engine Light lights up for no reason the Toyota driver will panick and possibly crash. Scary stuff.

LOL No no no!!I'm a technician for Toyota and Almost no recalls cause a Check engine light,so don't even go there if you don't know,I think some of Toyota's recall are so stupid,like the Highlander center carpet clip replacement,,also the child safety lock botton is too long so we have to trim them down,and the Sienna tape recall that goes inside the lower part of the door panel!The only thing that can cause a DTC is an engine manegement malfunction,Evap leak or malfunction,or transmission mulfunction,which Toyota does not have,Toyota only has Body and suspension recalls.

Yep European luxury cars are built to be taxis and are often sold stripped - you know AM radios, cloth or vinyl seats, wind-up windows, etc.

However Japanese luxury cars are engineered to have AC, complex electrical systems, high end radios and other options; and to go more slowly.

And of course US cars are developed to have popcorn makers, fridge-freezers, microwaves, projector TVs etc.

When customers order high spec vehicles from Audi the customers are asking Audi to do something they don't do in Europe - namely provide a car with a lot of options.

BTW, Lexus should recall the brand new LS460 for HORRIBLE brakes. It needs 209 feet to brake from 70 miles per hour. Most new cars take 30-40 feet less. Now that is a real danger to the general public.

Not sure, but in the Car and Driver luxury sedan comparison, the Lexus LS460 had the WORST braking, in fact it was 27 feet worse than the group average. Now that is a real safety issue. Pickups get better braking distances. The Lexus LS 460 has many safety features, but when the push comes to shove, the Lexus LS 460 has most likely the WORST braking distance of any passanger car on the road today. What about that Lexus fans?

chewy, I just read C&D and youre right about the LS460 taking a lot of road to stop and we all know we have to stop or we could drive off the side of a mountain and smash into the rocks and tear the car into little bitty pieces.

The Lexus also has a small trunk or boot for the Brits.

No, Car and Driver got two bad results, 207 feet and 209 feet. I am sure about 90% of LS460s will be equipped with the lame regular tires. This doesn't excuse the atrocious braking, very dangerous.

What are you talking about, in the January 2007 issue in the Chauffeur Showdown" the Lexus LS 460 requires 207 feet to stop from 70 mph. In the October 2006 issue in the preview test it requierd 209 feet. In both tests the LS 460 also required significantly more than 5.4 seconds to achieve 60 miles per hour. Like I said before, it doesn't matter if the tires are at fault, as the consumer should not be required to purchase tires to keep themselves alive. Also, WTF are you talking about scratched out results for the BMW 750. And the Passat doesn't have the brakes fail even if the problem occurs, just has less boost, it would probably still stop in less space than the LS 460. So the Lexus should have a recall for the horrible braking of the LS 460.

Also, Road and Track got 143 feet required to stop the LS 460 from 60 and 251 from 80. For comparison:

Audi A8: 127 and 219.
BMW 745 li: 117 and 203.
Jaguar XJ8L: 125 and 223.
Mercedes Benz S500: 133 and 247. (last generation)
Volkswagen Phaeton: 122 and 218.

So again, the Lexus LS 460 has the worst braking distances.
