Is Toyota’s European Image as Carefully Cultivated As it Seems?
On the numbers side, Toyota Motor Europe remains the ultimate example of flawless execution. But two recent blows to its quality and environmental performance raise the question: Is Toyota still as good as its powerful image?

As usual, Toyota is selling more vehicles than it has promised. This year, the brand will sell close to 1.1 million units, up from 935,431 units last year.

The Japanese automaker’s Lexus premium brand is suddenly more potent. From 28,777 sales in 2005, it already has surpassed the initial 45,000 forecast for this year and is likely to beat the revised projection of 48,000.

Consumers purchase what is readility available to them. When I was in Germany, there seemed to be a Mercedes and VW dealership on every corner. Good luck finding a Toyota dealership there. That being said - if the European market being is saturated with European cars then it's no wonder it'll take Toyota a few more years to "crack" the market.

Even when the odd's are stacked against Toyota they seem to come out victorious.

leave it to 009 to always dig up the smallest scrap that could negatively portray toyota, and more so, lexus, slayer of the teutonic big 3.

when the article itself is neutral, 009 concocts a negative headline.

It looks like Lexus is finally making headway in Europe.

Does anyone notice the large number of negative blogs about Toyota on this site? It seems like every fu#*ing writeup here is either about someone's negative personal comment or some very minor irrelevant article they dug up somewhere that just happened to shed some negative light on the company.

Chill out you on your negativity already, it's making us sick. It's the same over and over and over...heck, you'd think Toyota is the evil empire.

I don't know if you notice, but judging by their sales revenue and profit and the fact that they are actually praised by everyone else for their environmental efforts and how they help the economy, then maybe, just maybe, you opinions don't really represent the mojority.

And they never shut up, either, about "reliability" and "quality" crap. We're getting sick ourselves.

Yeah, reliability and quality are dumb things to concern ourselves with.

for all the BADGE WHORES who make such a FUSS about the relationship bet'n lexus and toyota:

back in the 1950s and '60s, most mercedes models were NO MORE prestigious than buicks.
lincolns, and caddys FAR outclassed 'em.

bmws were roughly = pontiacs, vws were far BELOW chevys and fords.

...and audi was the 'american motors' of germany, a hodge-podge of SICK and dying brands.

with the rise of the Mark against the Dollar, and generally high costs due to their manufacturing INefficiencies, all these "prestigious" german marques would have had to QUIT the american market. as did the brits, french, and italians.

but some marketing genius figured, well, let's INCREASE the dollar prices, POSITION ourselves upmarket, and call these VERY ORDINARY cars german LUXURY cars. or sport luxury. or whatever.

somehow, they actually pulled it off.

and with the increased profits, they could actually PUT some credible upmarket features in to justify higher prices.

THAT is the origin of today's "prestige" brands. far more humble than even toyota. to say nothing of lexus.

meanwhile, the QUALITY of these "prestigious, heritage-rich" brands got bypassed NOT ONLY by the japanese, but even most american brands.

and they are STILL overpriced. except to the badge 'ho worshippers.

which is fine. SOME people gotta buy german and keep those companies alive.

biggest IRONY: since even VW has leapfrogged cheap chevies in price (but not quality), there are NO MORE "cheap" german cars to hold up the low end.

so it has fallen to MERCEDES-BENZ to chase after the bottom feeder consumers with the smart car! LOL!
