SPY PHOTO: An SUV coming even cooler than the FJ Cruiser?

Cooler than the FJ, or a replica of the FJ? That is the real question.

So, the Toyota FJ is an original design? I thought it was a copy of the JEEP.

Weird, I had thought that Toyota used the several decades of LandCruiser design and experience when looking for inspiration for the FJ.

which in turn copied from the jeep.

But the FJ, the subject of this story, is not a copy of a Jeep, but an evolution of the LandCruiser family.

Uh...you better get your eyes checked - the original Land Cruiser looks NOTHING like the Jeep. Sure, they're both SUVs but that's about it.

Here's a thought. Since it already has the lights and fenders from a VW New Beetle, why not fill in the grill, and call it "New Beetle Off-Road Stretch-Limo Wagon!"
Actually, VW couldn't make a car this ugly either.

I think the Echo finally has competition in the "what were they thinking" category.

If BMW were to build this Mini SUV...think Chevy HHR in size and general proportions for the small luxury ute. A Mini the size of an X3 just wouldn't be very Mini, would it?

It looks nothing like the new toyota FJ other than the short windows, but the FJ got that idea from the Hummer! The only thing this shares with the fj is the fact that they are both pavement princesses.I see no utility here!Who said the FJ is cool?I liked the old FJ, They gained a reputation of a go anywhere 4x4 because the axles and frame were tough!The short comings were the way the suspension was set up by having the leaf springs under the axles that limited wheel travel.The majority of off road enthusiasts did a spring over axle and sometimes longer leaf springs that greatly enhansed wheel travel that translated into something that would traverse anything!The new FJ would cost a lot to modify to come close to the old solid axle FJ$$$$$$ I am expecting some angry responces from the car guys that don't know what I meant....

Fj is a great vehicle although sadly its target market is of the novelty bunch. Like truckmen said, its would cost a lot to modify it for off road and the seats are low, the windows are small, hood too high, etc. for offroading. The fj sold well mainly because Landcruisers have a cult following. For the Mini that looks like and FJ, I dont think so. But for a Defender 90, maybe.

It has a white roof and small windows. thats all I see that says anything FJ. Looks like someone was very bored and had a picture of a Mini they could cut up.. I would hope if Mini decided to do something like this, this wouldn't be the out come.. As far as the Jeep and FJ the FJ was the answer to having a Jeep in Japan. If memory serves me right.. So who cares, I don't think the new FJ is in the same league as the origal one. Not saying its not good just saying its not the same class. The Jeep has been updated over the years and still holds true to what it was. Just my thoughts.
