Leaked: Volvo XC60 Concept

Official photos of the new Volvo XC60 Concept set to debut at the Detroit Auto Show were leaked today onto the web. According to sources, the XC60 Concept will be largely based on the Freelander 2 and the Iosis X concept. It will also be the first vehicle to be designed under Volvo’s new manager of design, Steve Mattin.

The design breaks away from the boxy style on current Volvo’s, as well, we can expect to see more designs such as these on future Volvo vehicles. On the inside, as expected for a concept, the design is futuristic and we see that there is a floating center console fitted on the XC60 concept.

Power will likely come from the S80 sedan, including an available V8 engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The XC60 will likely be fitted with the all-wheel-drive system, as is the XC90.

Looks good,but the Front is very busy looking with with so much unwanted details.Something like an overdone front facia.
Look at the bumper.

I doubt the real version will looks like that. It will have the same size and proportions but most likely different styling.

Enough already. Volvo needs to bring on clean diesel as an option to standard, V6s, and forget about these gas-guzzlering V8s. Everyone is claiming 300+ horsepower in luxury SUVs that get fuel economy in the teens, while emitting loads of greenhouse gasses out the tailpipe. What is there to brag about in that?

A 3.0-ish diesel that gets economy in the upper twenties with 200+ horsepower and 350+ lbs of torque; superior torque than a 5.0ish V8 gasser, and acceleration comparable with the standard V6; positive response in any gear on any incline; runs on any blend of biodiesel with no loss in fuel economy or performance; as quiet and refined as a gas engine during cruising and acceleration; and hwy. economy in the upper twenties, while maintaining most of that during high-utility use. Now that would be an option to brag about, and is what Europeans have had as a choice for years!

Clean diesel is the future for luxury SUVs; Volvo has great expertise in this field and should lead, along with MB in bringing them to North America. Volvo has stated that they would love to bring them here, so why are they--and everyone else--still pushing V8, gas-guzzlers down our throats? And why do Ameicans still think this is cool, after the price shocks in fuel we have seen? We've only seen the beginning.

Will the same people that buy these gas-guzzlers be the same folks mad at government and the oil industry for the next round of price spikes in fuel.

The EPA is going to allow BlueTec, urea-injection SCR. Mercedes will have a 3.0 V6 diesel in five models or more, for all fifty states, in 2008. That powerplant produces 215 hp and 397 lbs of torque. That's more torque than their 5.0, direct-injection V8, and it gets 65% better fuel economy. Why would anyone need or want a V8 gasser, when a V6 diesel will give them the same performance and more, save a better drag-racing time. Do folks really buy these things to drag race?
