New Audi Marketing Focus:"Success in Life, Means an Audi in the Garage"

New Audi Marketing Focus:
“Audi has had its roots in the Northeast and the foul-weather regions and that is where we have seen great sales,” said Scott Keogh, the company’s chief marketing officer. “But we are going to where America is heading.”

This year, Audi has seen dramatic gains in its sales in larger southern cities. In Miami, sales have jumped 39%; in Dallas the figure is 23% and in Atlanta, 15%, Keogh said.

That direction also means a more flamboyant marketing angle, Keogh said, to complement Audi’s expanding line of models. Between 2005 and next year, Audi will have introduced 19 new products, including its first SUV, the Q7, and an all-new TT coupe.

Audi will be cast as a lifestyle achievement and aspiration rather than a triumph of German engineering, a move similar to what BMW has done in the last two years. Audi is just now beginning to be recognized as a true luxury marque and now represents to Volkswagen what Lexus does to Toyota—a monied step up in brands within the same family.

“Only in the last few years has Audi been accepted as a player that might be equal to BMW or Mercedes,” said John Bulcroft, an auto consultant and former Audi marketing chief in the ’70s. “And I think the market could absorb Audi sales of well over 100,000 units.”

"Success in life, means in Audi in the garage"

That sounds real snotty.

It is finally time that Audi step up and start being like BMW and MB. They always had a quiet, back of the bus mentality when it came to attracting customers.

Now Audi, fed up with being perceived second to BMW and MB finally realizes the important part marketing plays in establishing consumer repoir.

This is no different than BMW labeling themselves "ultimate driving machines". Atleast Audi can say they dominate more than just comparison tests--quattro, diesel development/technology, LeMans, interiors, top rated engines, safety accolades (A3, A4, A6, Q7), high residuals (ALG).

Despite your obvious attempt, you're simply not funny at all.

I'd rather drive a car that spends a couple of days in a repair shop than an overpriced, cheap, Japanese boat made by Toyota.

Who's garage..your garage at home or the repair garage at your local Audi 'Centre'?

All those poor people who got stuck with A4 1.8T's that suffered from the oil sludge problem and needed new engines will certainly not appreciate the new slogan.

We had an A4 1.8T.

What oil sludge problem?

It was a B5. The only problem we had was a slight oil leak, easily fixed by the dealer. It was bought used for my older son.

In reality, having an audi in your garage means your just average, just like everyone else,
because audi is volkswagen the peoples car company, golf/a3, tt, A1/polo, Q7/touraeg, a8/phateon, etc..

...probably not. Audi will find it a difficult task to replace garages that house BMWs with Audiwagens. No, they will probably target the VW drivers, Saab drivers, Toyota drivers....

Funny how the article says that Audi is following BMW.

Again....

Looks like they might have to have a makeover for their "Never Follow" slogan....Always Follow sounds good...unless the car mysteriously goes in to reverse when you want it to move forward.

I hope they get rid of never follow. They only use that in the USA and use VDT for the rest of the world

One second, the article never mentioned that this is their slogan or anything.

In fact, that phrase is not even present in the article.

Yeah, I was just wondering about that too. There isn't any mention of the slogan on of title of this post in the article. However, you could say that the title never claimed "Success in life, means in Audi in the garage" is THE slogan. It is their MARKETING FOCUS. I suppose Audi wants to create an image that owning an Audi is something very special.

If having an Audi means your average, having a BMW means your broke since Audi owners on average are wealthier than BMW owners.

AUDIMAN4,

My local Lexus dealer was once sold both BMW and Lexus in the same showroom. It was the perfect place to cross-shop both brands. The guy in finance told me at the time that the average the BMW buyer had a lower credit score than the typical Lexus buyer. Since then they've sold the BMW franchise to another dealer. It makes you wonder which brand was chased by the "new money" looking to score some "status". So I’m not sure that your assumption that Lexus buyers are less educated is entirely correct. Some of the richest and most successful people drive a Lexus including Michael Bloomberg, Bill Gates, and Steven Spielberg.

I don't care about some stupid ranking, just check Edmund and your local listings. Not the ones from dealer but the want ads or craigslist. That's the real price of what people pay for used cars. Here in NorCal used Audi are much cheaper than most of the Lux brand.

Look who's talking. So nice weather, lots of jobs and one of the richest and most populous area in the USA is a shitty place to live, NICE. I only talking about local prices which effect me or people live here, which to me says that Audi re-sale value sucks big time. It maybe good for Audi fans though, you can buy a nice fairly new Audi cheap.

I totally agree that sumbolizing success is based on individual tastes.

We all know that Audi customers are on average wealthier than BMW customers.

It would be foolish to think the man who bought that A8L 6.0 W12 or Audi R8 with V10 couldn't afford a BMW would make the shit up.

This is because the Audi customer could have bought any BMW vehicle that is currently being produced.

AmazingBimmer you just need to comprehend the respective demographics for BMW and Audi customers.

If you could correctly do that, you would figure our that Audi customers are not only on average wealthier, but also more educated on average than BMW customers.

Get a clue AmazingBimmer...your failure to comprehend the demographics for BMW and Audi makes you look like a complete moron.
