Spy Shots: Mercedes GLK Undisguised

AutoBild is running this spy shot of the new Mercedes GLK, which is said to be the best competitor for the BMW X3. This is the most undisguised Mercedes GLK we’ve seen after all those spy shots that have been popping up. Speculations on the engine for the upcoming Mercedes GLK include a 1.8 liter engine producing 184 horsepower, along with a variants of V6 engines producing 204 to 272 horsepower.

Hopefully, the (photoshopped) pics of the Q5 turn out to be close to reality...these new small SUVs are heating up the industry.

what is MB coming to? first they make an ugly large SUV now an ugly small SUV. and they put the gear shift behind the steering wheel like minivans in all their large cars claiming its sporty in the CL and S classes.

it is very sporty, easy to use, and makes the interior look cleaner IMO. Have you ever sat in/driven one? Obviously you haven't if that is your take on the matter...The gear lever is about the size of your blinker and is controlled by nudging it up or down...the resting position of the lever is never changed, unlike the big clunker column mounted mini van shifters that you are referring to. It is a much better design than a tunnel-mounted shifter if you're buying an automatic car.

Just look at how clean the interior of the S-class looks without a big shifter on the tunnel...

Unless they can really go offroad then they are not. In some other countries roads are real bad and sometimes to visit other villages you have to go thru some offroad, so it makes sense for this people to get a small SUV.

I dont think they're totally useless, in fact for the most part I think they serve a better purpose than large SUVs since (in larger cities) you rarely ever see more than one person aboard and never towing anything. This one in particular though,is very ugly but should compete fine with the also ugly X3. I do see what you mean though, but it doesnt apply in L.A.

Hey, I use my SUV all the time for SUV stuff. (Mainly hauling cargo, and making sure I don't get stuck in the snow.)

I'm an MB fan, as well as BMW...but the GLK will probably be just as ugly, if not uglier than the X3.

Let's hope Audi's Q5 can add a little flair to this segment.
