Mazda 3 Sport Diesel Planned for February
Mazda is planning to launch a diesel version of the Mazda 3 in February. The car is likely to be badged D Sport and will have a 143 horsepower engine with a top speed of 130 mph. The new Mazda 3 Diesel will give Mazda the chance to compete with cars such as the Ford Focus and Peugeot 307 which already come in diesel varients. The car is expected to do 0-60 in 8.5 seconds and is expected to achieve 55mpg.

That will be 55mpg in Euro terms, so it would not achieve those ratings in the US. It will also be dirtier than a hybrid, but who cares about the air we breathe.

Why don't you go to a VW dealer and actually drive a TDI.
It would be a great education.
Less out of the tail-pipe than any other car ... lasts twice as long as a gas-powered car (saving the earth by conserving resources) and has a better resale value to boot!
(And it will lay rubber in 1st and 2nd gear ... but you can tell your wife you bought it for the environment ;)

Oh, sorry ... they're all sold out till 2008!

I like the Mazda 3.
With a TD engine (and some seats from ANY European car ... the stock ones are brutal) it would be a great little "hot hatch"!

I hope they improved the safety standards for this car.It isn't very safe.
