Audi R8 Invite-Only Event at Design Miami

AudiWorld was in Miami as Audi showed the R8 in front of potential buyers at Design Miami 2006. The exclusive event gave potential buyers a chance to sit inside the R8 and check it out with their own eyes. As Germannut pointed out earlier, there were reports that the R8 laid down some amazing times at the Nurburghring and that there would be a V10 version, and finally that there will only be 200 copies available next year when it goes on sale in August. This event shows that Audi is committed to sell the Audi R8 as a high profile sports car. Check out the article for more details and photos.

Audi Rtronic sequential-shift gearbox, along with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Standard equipment includes xenon lights, 18-inch aluminum wheels, an audio system and an antitheft alarm. Options include a Bang & Olufsen sound system with 12 speakers, an acoustic parking system and a rearview camera.

Sports cars in general and the R8 probably have fairly poor rear visibility. The Saleen S7 has always had a backup camera.

Backup camera would do the R8 & it's Lambo relatives good...There isn't much compromise for style in these babies...Rear visiblity usually no acception.

SexyLexusdude: sorry to disapoint you, but I drove the IS 250 and....well, it's not that fast.
It only has 185 lbs of torque and it shows.
My A4 with the 2.0T feels much quicker.
Don't get me wrong, the IS is a very nice car, but it is small inside, back seat does not fold down, still no full size spare, and the interior as nice as it is, it's still too japaneese and not sporty enough for me.
Plus the lack of Manual with the AWD just killed it!
The IS is actually the slowest in it's class.
Again, the IS is a good car, but not what it is all hype to be; maybe if you had the IS350.
Now back to the R8...I want one!!

The A4 has it's OWN platform.
My A4 is 2 years old and have not had a single problem with it. It must not be that bad since it won War's Best engine for 06 and ALL the press loves it.
It even spanked your IS250 in Automobile Magazine a few months back.
So you know...Toyota/ Lexus has had more recalls this year than Audi....
I don't even know why I bother....but thanks for the laugh.

The R8 is faster than the C6, C4S, and the M6- some of its primary competitors (but it really doesn't have any).

Audi's quotes are way slow. If you haven't realized this by now, you'd be living in a hole. Most magazines get about 0.5 seconds quicker than what they say.

The R8 V10 will be introduced soon enough- even Audi has officially said that. Expect it to be a "real" sports car if this is too "plain" for you. LOL!

Oh and, surprisingly, not really. In normal comparos, F430 and Gallardo regularly time OVER four seconds for 0-60.

I can't wait to eventually get this car. (after that whole low volume intial release thing is over)

I still wonder what the process is for changing out those side blades is. Can you do it yourself easily?

I do wish they wouldn't have options on this car. I'd rather just have a slightly higher base price and not have to wait around for a fully optioned car to show up.

I don't think that you will be able to change the side blades yourself. They are an actual part of the car and not a clip on addition. You should get in touch with your local Audi dealers to see when you can get your own R8.

I get your point, but the entire REASON the R8 doesn't have a V10 yet is so it doesn't undercut the Gallardo. Once Lambo upgrades their engine, Audi will drop the V10 into it. It's a complicated cycle.

If it had the V10 at launch, Audi's masterful engineers would magically make it faster than a Gallardo.

porsche do it all the time, why doesn't a cayman have a limited slip diff or a more powerful engine, even though the chassis could take it? because then it would be quicker round the 'ring than a 911...
