Volvo Starts Phasing Out all Other Transmissions in Favor of DSG

Whither the autoboxes and CVT clockworks? Automotive News is reporting Volvo's S40 and V50 oil burners in Europe will come with dual-clutch transmissions, which can be shifted like manuals or run in automatic mode, starting in late 2007. The cars won't be getting the slick Borg-Warner box that turned once manual-only VW/Audi heads into DSG-paddling fools; Volvo's using a similar setup from Getrag, its joint-venture transmission partner.

Wait a minute. Some one using technology that VW and Audi pioneered. Inconceivable, completely and utterly inconceivable. Why would any one in their right mind would want to use VW technology. What idiots are the guys at Volvo.

But VW pioneered DSG technology. But as we know VW doesn't EVER invent/pioneer technology. This all must be a cover up with DSG technology actually invented and pioneered by Toyota.

Uhh thats because VW didn't invesnt Dual clutch transmissions. It was invented by Andolphe Kégresse before WW2 but never made a working prototype. The first dual clutch transmision used was the PDK system by Porsche. It was used in the 956 race cars which raced in Le Mans a long time ago. And no VW didn't invent the wheel noe did they invent gasoline. Sorry.

Audi used it on its race cars at the same time. But VW and Audi have PIONEERED it so now every one knows how good it it.

That is like saying that Toyota didn't invent the hybrid because some one had a prototype 100 years ealier. You can safely say that Toyota is the pioneer in hybrids as VW is to twin clutch transmission (DSG and S-Tronic)

the wright brothers didn't invent the plane either, just theirs worked quite well. i mean sir george caley did a flight off a hill long before they did, but he didn't have an engine or a steering system or very much else.
and toyota didn't invent hybrid, fuel cells or anything like that. trains use hybrid systems. but this isn't toyota bashing, just the word invent is very specific. pioneer is a much better word.
