Motor Trend Names It's 2007 Truck of the Year
Today, Motor Trend magazine bestowed its prestigious "Truck of the Year" award on the all-new 2007 Chevy Silverado. "We feel the new Silverado represents the best of the best in the competitive pickup truck segment," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. "Years of work have gone into every element of this vehicle. It's great to receive this recognition from such a respected publication. It provides great reinforcement and encouragement for our entire Chevy team, and our employees from our design studios to engineering centers, and assembly plants to dealerships - this is a great win." This is the third time since 1999 the Silverado has received this coveted award, making it the only three-time winner in the 18-year history of the award.

"This firmly establishes Silverado in the leadership position among all pickups," Peper added.

The all-new truck incorporates new exterior and interior designs, powertrain, chassis and safety systems. The fourth generation of the legendary small-block V-8 engine family is the power behind the new pickup, delivering segment-leading horsepower and fuel economy. This makes it the only full-size pickup with over 300 hp and a combined fuel economy rating of more than 20 mpg. Silverado also offers the widest range of truck configurations with three cab sizes, three bed lengths and two distinct interiors to fit every customer's needs.

Motor Trend Editor In Chief Angus MacKenzie praised the new Silverado for offering "...traditional values people want in a pick-up - it's rugged, durable and versatile, but it's also stylish and comfortable...and it's done a great job in maintaining the Silverado's reputation for value."

As the new truck hits the market, customers are responding. Silverado, already the top-selling Chevrolet model, saw its sales increase 18% in November over the same month last year, and that trend is expected to grow as the new trucks fully penetrate the market. This will keep Chevy's 4,100 dealers humming through the holiday season and into 2007.

Great job GM! So..he's the question..will the Tundra be named Motor Trend's 2008 TOTY when it's billed as an '07?? And the only reason Toyota made it an 07 was to get around the new EPA rules that will actually decrease gas milage..so

Paul, thats the dumbest comment Ive read yet today. Toyota could not call the Tundra a 2008, when it is rolling off assembly lines in 2006 (presently). It's not about the EPA mileage, which you will find will affect the pushrod Chevys much moreso than the multi-valve Toyota engines.

Okay 1970, I agree to disagree on this one. Sorry you think my comment was 'dumb" per say, but regarding your analysis on "fuel consumption" you have to look quite a bit larger than just how many valves the engine has...you have to take into account the entire mechanical system. Right? So drivetrain friction losses (trans, diff, etc), the coefficient of drag, friction/thermal transfer between the tire and the road surface, plus the overall efficiency of the motor itself. GM has a DOD (displacement on demand) that allows it an advantage over Toyota..especially on the highway. I think Toyota pulled the move because they KNOW they can't beat GM under the new EPA guidelines, so this makes the fuel economy gap much closer under the older guidelines. Dude..it's the same reason Toyota waited till it got the 5.7 for the launch..they are trying to hit GM will all they got.

This truck is built for those that need a great work truck and not for those that want to simply drive around in a truck for no good reason.

In fact, I don't understand why anyone would buy an SUV to just drive around, but I see them all the time here in SoCal.

Cars are safer than SUV and Trucks.

When I see people driving an SUV and I can bet it's never been offroad I think what a waste of money.

It's like going to Sears and buying a bunch of power tools and putting them in the garage and never using them.

These people in SUV's never use the equipment they paid for, but they think because it's a little bigger they will be safer.

One thing I've learned is that, in America people don't buy thing because of their need.

Example, Hummer, Land Cruiser, Yukon, Escalade, 4Runner, cayene, X5 etc. And so many more. Most Americans buy X5 because of the name, not realizing that they have a very capable truck on their hands.
In America, have you ever seen a Range Rover with dirty spare tire hooked on top? They only people I've seen driving these things(all the luxury trucks) here are rich soccer moms, who don't even have a clue on how to negotiate a side walk hop.

It should be an 08 model but Toyota is calling it an 07 to get a better EPA fuel economy rating for one year.

I think some people subconsciously prefer pickups and SUVs because you climb up to the driver’s seat instead of crawling in…sort of like climbing up to a horse. Good old western frontier mentality in the United States is still alive and kicking, I guess.

Those cars pay gas guzzler taxes, the SUVs and pickups don't. Millions of the gas guzzling (but not gas guzzler tax paying) SUVS and pickups are sold compared to few thousand of sports cars. That is all.

Ok, I understand, while I don't like them at all (safety and others issues) I wouldn't really "hate" them if the SUVs and pickups had gas guzzler taxes on them as the cars I like use up similar amounts of fuel. I understand your "big picture"

I see these people and know some that have trucks and SUV's with shiny wheels and they never take them off road or tow anything and they never take them up to the mountains during sking season.

So they pay for the towing and off road capability and never use the equipment so why not just get a car that handles good.

I don't care if people want to drive a truck and never use it for what it was intended for and I'm sure there are people that own a Ferrari and never break the speed limit.

I just don't need an off road vehicle since I never go there and I don't own a boat.

The new trucks and SUV's from GM are great vehicles. Now if they can do the same for their cars.
