Porsche to Compete Globally with Toyota
Prosche’s CEO is hinting that by Porsche having a 27.4% control in Volkswagen’s stake, it could line itself up to compete with Toyota on a global level. While there is no talk on whether Porsche, a small, but highly profitable company will buy out Volkswagen, but in the recent financial results, presented by CEO Wiedeking, Porsche compared their stake in Volkswagen to the automotive market saying:

“We opened the game. Other players are either striking out against us or joining us in our moves—and now everybody not acquainted with the tactics we had carefully considered in advance is feeling nervous. VW, with all its brands, is the only one with the potential to stand up to Toyota.”

Wiedeking currently sits on the Volkswagen board and has said that Porsche’s involvement and investment is strategic and longterm.

Porsche is a small and successful company, but they won't beat Toyota that easy. You think Toyota just going to sit on their a$$ and let this happen? ah..."NO". Toyota has become where they are today because of hardwork.

true Toyota and other good car companies are where they are because of there hard work, but the American companies are where they are because of their lazy and lousy work.

Like I said again, Porsche should take it easy and not try to make too many changes in order to sell a few more Porsches more easily.

I would not sell Porsche short. They grooved their production technigues from Toyota. VW has a lot of potential. Seat,Skoda and VW offer the large volume potential. Seat I know has not been profitable.However this might be where Porsche could be of help.The probelem I see more is that Bentley,Lamborgini,Bugatti are useless to compete against Lexus as they are simply too high end and very limited volume.But Audi is certainly what Porsche is interested in. Frankley I see Porsche not only making Bugatti rendundent but probably getting rid of Lamborgini as well as they compete too much. I could see them keeping Bentley,however.

That is the problem. Porsche fears brands that somewhat compete with it. As far as I know Lamborghini has been profitable, there is no need to dump Lamborghini. Lamborghini would not survive without Audi as Audi basically snatched Lamborghini from the deathbed. If Porsche even hints at that, VW and Audi should look to get away from Porsche as quickly as possibly.

Great! more are competitions more will be the quality and good prices for consumers! Knowing that TOYOTA is very advanced in term of quality and VW(specialy Porsche) is also famous for their attention to quality, this war will be fantastic for us!

Competition is a good thing,a world without competition would be very boring,I guess this is a Goliath(VW)versus Godzilla(Toyota) type of match,but I won't put my money on Goliath(VW),lol!!!

Hmmmm a Porsche + Lamborghini...= Competitor to the Pagani suppose. VW cars would probably come out more sporty by Porsches help (as well as a higher price tag) but it seems that this segment is more geared toward more performance luxury (VW - R32, Audi RS/S lineup. Toyota has pretty much no sport car in its line up, and Lexus is just hitting it off with it's F division. Bently Bugatti and Lambo need no such help from Porsche.

You know Toyota/Lexus has alots money and I mean alots of money$$$$$ where they can purchase other auto company. For example they have enough money to bid for Aston Martin but they don't for their own reason. VW is "NOT" the only one with cash flown around.

Ok VW has potential with Porsche by their side. They need cheaper and more efficient models in the US (I mean the gas 2.5l isn't good enough and TDI isn't available in the biggest markets in the US, CA & NY). Second they definitely need to increase their sales in NA by a whole lot. People can say that "US is not the world" but without selling well here it becomes difficult to be number one. Toyota is gaining sales in Europe and will continue to do so. VW is high in China but Toyota is coming fast.

So in the end for VW to beat Toyota it will have to do what Toyota does and then hope that their sales dramatically increase. VW has potential - but it is going to be tough. Unless Toyota falls apart greatly.

Porsche, barely selling 90,000 cars each year, banks more profit dollars than VW who sells 1 million +/- cars. The VW/Audi group can definitely benefit from Porsche's know-how.
