Toyota Publishes North American Corporate Environmental Goals

Toyota Publishes North American Corporate Environmental Goals
Toyota today announced its Second Consolidated Five-Year Environmental Action Plan (2007-2011), setting new environmental goals for all phases of the vehicle lifecycle and addressing themes of energy, climate change, recycling, resource conservation, substances of concern, atmospheric quality and environmental management.

The new action plan was published as part of the sixth annual Toyota North America Environmental Report for 2006. A few significant commitments include: • achievement of best-in-class fuel efficiency performance, • reduction of total energy usage of manufacturing facilities and operations in North America by 27% per vehicle produced, using FY 2002 as a base year, • promotion of basic environmental research aimed at CO2 emissions reductions, and • reduction of waste in sales and logistics facilities, including a 90% recycling rate at vehicle distribution centers by FY 2011, reduction of non-hazardous waste to landfill from parts operations by 33% by FY 2011 (FY2006 baseline), diversion of 95% waste from Toyota Canada facilities from landfill by FY 2010 and reduction of Canadian facility paper consumption per person by 25% by FY 2010.

I dont doubt Honda has an environmental study such as this on the books, as likely all mfrs do. Only on Autospies however, does some lame Toyota hater turn this into a competition, rather than just accept that a corporation puts its plan out for public knowledge. Congratulations to Toyota for once again remaining a leader in sustainable manufacturing.

Silver Arrow, why are you SLAMMING Toyota in your post? I mean, everyone knows that Toyota is the best in everything. Especially boring people to death in their sleeping pill cars...

No. Where have you been?

Honda is ahead of Toyota in Environmental.

Soon you'll tell me they are ahead of Honda in Aviation, Robotic, motor cycling, technology.

Toyota is only ahead in automobile because they have a large resource of money. That's it.

Toyota is in competion, because of the reason I mentioned. Honda is in the game because of their inovative technology.
What ever Honda does Toyota try to emulate.
Case in point, Vtec=Honda, Vvti=Toyota.

And who was the first one with a hybrid production and still holds the record for most fuel efficient Vehicle?
It may have been a good looker to some, but the Insight was and is the pioneer for hybreed.

What company is the first to fuel cell car into production?

Go and do your home work before answer.

I agree, Honda did this about 10 years ago, but were much quieter about it. Toyota simply is allowing the PR dept to announce what is fairly normal corporate responsibility. So it sounds like they are breaking new ground rather, than simply acting as a responsible industrial leader like everyone else.

Silveraero thats where your wrong,Toyota had VVT since the late 80's,but they only had it in Japanese engines like the 4AGE 20v not avalible in the U.S,Toyota did not advertise VVT by sticking a decal on the side of it's vehicles like Honda(DOHC VTEC)!!
Later Toyota Modified the VVT(mechanical)to VVT-i(electronical with Intelligence)Note!!right after Toyota released VVT-i,Honda came out with their modified version of VTEC in i-VTEC,so who is emulating who???I think it's Honda!!

Toyota wants to promote its environmental consciousness while at the same time having high hopes for their gas-guzzling new Tundra pickup? How ironic.

I'd say these PR stunts don't convince everyone. By the very nature of their work, car companies are polluters. First, their cars pollute. Then, you have to consider the factories they run to produce these cars pollute. The machines that reader the raw materials needed to build a car pollute. Everything in this business still pollutes.

The industry as a whole is getting cleaner, however, but there's still a long way to go.

And before I get slammed by the Toyota worshippers, this isn't a bash against Toyota for God's sake.

Wow, you Toyota fanboys are retarded. I am sorry, but I just have to say this.

Willis wasn't slamming Toyota at all. Read his post again. Jesus H. Christ, the moment you Toyota fanboys see the words "Toyota" in a sentence that sounds a little negative, you automatically assume that the poster is flamming Toyota.

Pathetic.

1970Toyo,

Did you carefully read his comment?

He's not taking any side, he only mentioned Toyota because they are the one who put that PR stunt, but if you carefully read Wills' comment, you would see that he's taking shot at every one makes gaz guzzlers.

That's not bashing, it only requires reading comprehension.

You don't get it, do you?

This is a PR stunt. You're telling me Toyota cares about the environment? If they really did, they'd refuse to sell V8-powered Landcruiser's and Tundra's (etc.) in the US.

Fact is, car companies are here to make money, all of them. They offer a product people want. If the market demands pickups and SUV's with a V8 or a V24, the car companies in a position to do so will offer that. Toyota included.

Keep believing this PR stunt.

so, toyota is hypocritical because they make V8s? V8 engines, incidentally, that put all domestic pushrods to shame in power and EFFICIENCY?

you haters conveniently chose to IGNORE: "significant commitments include: • achievement of best-in-class fuel efficiency performance..."

yeah, it may not be very green to crank out 19 mpg vehicles. EXCEPT when most of the competition only get 15 mpg or so.

Its a PR stunt very clearly. It shows you how good Toyota is managed in the US and at the top of their game in managing its reputation and customer's perception.

all the IGNORANT CRITICS are obviously totally oblivious to the fact that one of the CORE points of TM's corporate philosophy, one that has driven them from nowhere in the auto universe in 1945 to Number One in 2007 (easily projected), is: minimize and REDUCE WASTE.

Toyota don't have the money making machine. They also earned it like many others by doing hard work.
A better job than everybody else.

Saying Toyota has more Money that's why they r ahead is just foolish.

As of making motor cycles,boats..etc

Same can be said for Honda,as they don't have any true and Full size SUVs,trucks, pick up's,All types of Buses,A Super Luxury like Lexus LS460/600h....etc

It's beacuse maybe they don't consider that perticular segment.

I even Love Honda but u r right,
Honda is silver but Toyota is Gold.

As for German fans. What do u guys think about that New filthy V12 Diesel of Audi.

U mean,R they(Germans) saving the planet?

Atleast Toyota is putting the first steps in order to sort out the enviornmental issues.

Hybrids were there first attempt then variety of small cars and now these plans---->Read the whole article.

As for Land cruisers and thundras, they need to have V8's in order to do the work they are asigned for.
Offroading,carrying itself(5000lbs nearly),towing the load.

And they excel at it.

But after all, haters will be haters.

Toyota for life

One of the cleanest V12 diesels on the market. Jugnu doing what he does best: posting useless information.

You need a V8 for that? How many people actually buy a pickup and use it for towing? A pickup here is a way of life, a fashion statement. A friend of mine has a Toyota Tundra pickup and he uses it to drive around town and buy his groceries or bring his little daughter to school. I've never even seen him use his pickup for what it was meant to be. And pickups like this don't "need" a V8. They're given a V8 because us Americans are so brainwashed into thinking every car needs one. A powerful V6 would do it too. Heck, a nice torquey diesel is what is needed here. Of course, pickup buyers in the US also expect sub 10 second 0-60 acceleration and a V8 is the "cheapest" way of doing this.

Toyota is just as guilty about polluting as all other car brands. And don't even start with this hybrid crap.

Sorry buddy, your posts make no sense.

Why is it that autospies is so fond of the Toyota Motor Corp press releases? One after the other..none of them really newsworthy and many of them presented as if they are from some unbiased 3rd party....this place is becoming Toyota's best advertising opportunity...you can't beat free adverstising...it is free right? hmmm....

Good post huu76. Saying Toyota is as guilty as any car manufacturer is like saying, "you need air to survive." Of course Toyota causes pollution when factories are cranking out cars! The purpose of the article was to illustrate Toyota's intentions, which is to REDUCE pollution output(which they've been doing). Keyword = reduce. Why is there even an argument over whether or not Toyota pollutes? Thats just retarded... and Bill your anti-Toyota "sleeping pill" comments are not needed here. We understand that you hate Toyota, but this article isn't about what cars you can and can't afford. Decipher that. It's all the same ishh in here. Anti-Toyota demonstrators sugar coat their poke/prod comments on Toyota's good doings, and the Toyota fanboys getting real touchy feely over every Toyota comment.
