SORRY. But that is not how you measure acceleration. First, all speedometers show higher speed than the vehicle is actually traveling at. Second, the speedometer needle is not the most precise instrument. Third, hand timing produces around a .2 second delay between seeing something and pressing the button. So to summerize, proffesional magazines use proffesional tools to measure acceleration, anything else is just estimation.

Chew, what are those professional tools that the magazines use other than hand timers? Actually ALL measurements are estimates even those in the magazines, that's why different magazines get different numbers because they don't use "percise" tools.

My 528i did in 5 seconds. and I measured it with my hand watch.

So chewy, why is it okay for a BMW to go fast but not a Lexus?

Yes, I have. But in this case, the chances of you being sarcastic is slim.

"and I measured it with my hand watch."

He was joking saying that this video shows no proof of acuracy and neither does his hand watch. It was a joke.

This video is an IS 350 vs. a Chevy Cavalier. Of course the Lexus won, but it's still hilarious that the Cavalier driver thought he had a chance. Typical Chevy driver.

There's no way that this car is STOCK. Some engine tampering / tuning or gear ratio changes have been done on this IS. That's the only explanation I can think off.

Otherwise, car magazines would have gotten such times with the IS350 a long time ago.

chewychewy - 12/24/2006 2:59:25 PM

The explanation is that the timing is not accurate.

The IS series is probably the best, ultimate production of Lexus ever!

you have to specify which IS...IS250? No. IS350? Maybe. IS-F? Definitely.

speedos over estimate by up to 10%.
if you car has a speed limiter, set it and drive till it dings at you, and see what you're doing on the speedo. on our car the speedo was out by 10mph (we were doing 100 though)

And if you wanted to really go to sleep, just watch an Audi try to be fast. Actually, that's pretty entertaining when Audi thinks they can go fast when they handle like a tank. You can thank their AWD system for that.

You can also thank the AWD when the S4 makes a fool of your POS IS350 off the line.

Hey guess what? In a newer article, the IS 350 beat the S4 in speed. Therefore concluding my opinion on the speed of an Audi.

I have a friend who's a cop and wanted to test my speedo because there is a lot of talk about the VW GTI speedos being 10% off. He clocked me as I was doing 40 on my speedo and guess what his radar read: 40mph.

Bottom line, all this talk about "all" speedos being off is bull.

RupertRupert - 12/24/2006 3:53:47 PM

by law a speedometer cannot underread ie it cannot say 35 when you are doing 40, BUT it can over-read by up to 10%, so most over-read. take a GTI to a higher speed and see whether it is still as accurate.

That freaking fast for sure, the stock IS350 definitely kick butt. Imagine what the IS-F can do from 0-60? in the low 4.0 for sure or even faster.

Lexus

under 4 sec? NO WAY! Are you that devoted to Lexus that you actually think that? A 400hp engine? That's Ferrari, Lambo, Z06, etc. (500+hp) territory...the IS-F will most likely be slated to hit 60 in the mid 4's, with some results getting probably 4.3 or so.

NARunnerNARunner - 12/25/2006 1:28:11 AM

yeah i read that, the "series" is not the ultimate Lexus product. The IS-F will be, most likely, but the IS250 is not the epitome of Lexus performance and luxury...therefore, the IS series is not "the best, ultimate production of Lexus ever"

That statement is so vague, it's like saying the BMW 3-series is the best BMW ever...well, WHICH ONE?
