Breaking News!: Ford asks Toyota for Help and Partnership
According to a source with access to Nikkei Net Insider, we've heard FoMoCo CEO Alan Mulally asked for and was granted a meeting this past week with ToMoCo Chairman of the Board Fujio Cho. According to NNI,

"The Wednesday morning edition reported that the meeting took place in Tokyo and was held at F's request. The meeting is considered as a first step in the exploration of a potential partnership. F EVP Mark Fields also attended the meeting. Mulally may visit Japan again in Jan to meet with Toyota executives."

I don't understand what's so difficult about designing cars like Toyota.

Ford needs a Corolla and Camry type car and that's about it.

Ford has vans and SUV's, so what in the hell is going on??

This can only be good news. American automakers need to learn from Toyota.

No...I doubted it Toyota really going to show Ford anything. Because from a business point of view people don't tell you all their secret. Because if they do you might out do them. If anything, it probably be sharing of technology or partner indevelopement or something.

Nothing is going to come, it is popular to write about automotive marriages currently. GM+Toyota, GM+Renault/Nissan, GM+For,. Ford+Renault/Nissan, and now Ford+Toyota.

toyota will give ford some help, if only as a public relations move. Toyota does not want to been seen a company destroying the American auto industry, a negative back lash could give a Americans a reason to some buying the products, why mess with success? American customers could turn to Nissan, Kia, or Honda if toyota creates some bad press, order maybe the U.S. could create a tax tariff on toyota products to help the American car companies. However the real reason why the GM, Ford and DC are stuggling, health care cost of the current and retired employees, the Asian and europeans don't have to pay employee health care costs. the only way GM and Ford can surivive is buy producing cars in other countries, which may put pressure on our goverment for a better health care system.

So a month ago they were making fun of Toyota for "NOT" having enough involvement in James Bond movie; now they want help? LOL What Freaking pathetic loser.

Larry, I definitely agree with you about Toyota only doing as a public relation thing. Other than that I know Toyota would "NOT" be interested in this from a business point of view.

Too little too late...they do have cars in the market of the corolla and the camry, its just that nobody buy American cars any more...only middle income Caucasian and African Americans...PERIOD. Don't believe me think of how many you ahve seen driving a camry...they would more rather drive a ford fusion, or a base model charger. *American cars are a joke...and the only idiots who drive them are folks with brand loyalty.

* = Not the Z06, or Daimler-Chrysler cars.

Yeah, they would have to put a "T" on the front and "Camry" on the back to give the Camry some competition.

Thats what they did before coming out with the taurus. Now the problem is not just product but parts, labor, marketing, perception, quality, multi-brand management, design, etc. Thats why maybe they need to consult with Toyota's executives. Ford is doing whatever it takes to survive and thats the important thing.

^^^Ford needs help bad, saying Ford should just die is like killing a puppy. There will be wide spread unemployment, our economoy will turn to crap...again. This in turn will lead to higher crime rates, increased teen pregnancies, and a gaping hole in the space time continuum.
