Toyota Continues to Expand Hybrid Line Up

Toyota Continues to Expand Hybrid Line Up
A brand new hybrid-only model will join Toyota’s Prius in 2009 to help the Japanese carmaker boost its sales of hybrid vehicles past 1m. The new model will be a midsize sedan and come fitted with a 2.5-3.0L engine, rather than the anemic 1.5L engine currently found in the Prius.

The sedan will get Toyota’s third-generation hybrid system, which promises to be both smaller and lower priced, reports Japan’s Asa

This sounds very interesting. MIDSIZE SEDAN and 2.5/3.0 got my attention.

How convenient, they always come up with some thing every time Honda makes an announcement.

It's true. But Honda and Toyota are the greatest manufatcturers in the world so Honda suffers very little.

it seems YOU are a minority.

what other manufacturers, outside of china, has such MOMENTUM in sales growth? on top of high VOLUMES to begin with?

within a decade, if not much sooner, i expect gm trying to defend its No. TWO position as honda continues to chase toyota.

Doesn't the camry hybrid fill that role already. Oh wait, they have to make one that doesn't have a regular engine so there will be no price difference to account for.

Global Warming also known as Climate Change is a theory by a bunch of tree hugging liberal hippies that states unless we don't go back and live in caves all the ice caps will melt and life as we know it will never be the same. Global Warming is based on very shaky science by a bunch of liberal scientists who have a political agenda. It is almost exclusively believed by left wing bleeding heart socialist Democrats who are influenced by environmental lobby groups and opposed to the economy and working people.

I guess you don't read the news huh Bill. The Bush Administration just recently announced that global warming is real and it is due in part to human activity.

Moreover, the Bush administration just yesterday announced plans to save the newly endangered polar bears, which are becoming endangered because of what??????
Once a species is classified as endangered, steps must be taken to save them. The only way to help the polar bear is to preseve its shrinking habitat (polar ice). Therefore, as much as Bush et al have dreaded this moment, they will now have to take steps to combat, and thus tacitly admit the existence of, global warming. Case frickin closed.

I agree with you 100%, which is one of the rare times you will hear me say that.

While IMO global warming has been exaggerated quite a bit, as everything is lately (SARS, bird flu and anything else) I am sure it is occuring, of course slower and less dangerously than many make it out to be. That is why diesel engines are perfect. We can easily reduce our C02 emmision with diesels, or by not having more than 50% of our vehicles getting only 14 mpg (trucks and SUVs)

diesels contribute less CO2 than a conventional gasoline engine due to their higher mpg, not because diesel itself is inherently a better kind of petroleum. It is still the burning of fossil fuels. Combine an extremely efficient small ICE with an electric motor (you see where I am going with this right?) and you have even less CO2, plus close to zero of the rest of the emissions. By the time diesels come close to the emissions efficiency of a hybrid, Toyota (and presumably Honda and Ford) will be on to an even cleaner, more efficient engine. You know, of course, that even the vaunted Bluetec is still not 50 state compatible. This is not due to its CO2 emissions, which are definitely better than the comparable V6 ICE. But, as grave as the threat of global warming is, other pollution still matters too.

BILL...

I never thought people were so stupid...but you proved that they are. I really can't say much about your comment...I just hope Darwin's theory of evolution somehow works its magic on you.

Honestly, humanity is in real deep shit because of people like you and your kind.

As soon as you realize that right-wing idiots breath the same air and live on the same planet as the left wing liberals, you may, just maybe, have a chance of realizing how retarted your comments about right/left crap really is.

I've never seen so much resistent, regardless of what you believe in, for bettering the way people live, bettering the environment which your retarded, puny life actually depends on. Yet you piss in your own cup and drink it...absolutely amazing.

It seems it's ok to exaggerate bullcrap about WMD's but when it comes to global issues, it's all an exaggeration.

I honestly think humanity doesn't stand a chance anymore.

ALL YOU PEOPLE WHO CALLED ME STUPID, READ THE LINK.

Did I write this? No. I posted the first line of the Global Warming article from this goofy website called UNCYCLOPEDIA, a parody of Wikipedia.

I see no one has clicked on the link. Everyone thought that BILL wrote it. Keep it up people...

Bill...none of us said you wrote that article. However, the fact that you bring up such an issue and actually took time to post it means you must agree with it on some level. Or else why post such a comment? Was it to alert us on the views of other people out there? Well if that was the case, thank you, and now we know! "And knowing is half the battle..."

We're just posting our own opinions regarding the topic.

I posted this on another thread, but I have a feeling that Global Warming is just another political fad that will go the way of the DoDo - Just like Save the Whales, Save the Rainforest, Diversity Awareness, Acid Rain Awareness, and GLOBAL COOLING (1970's).

If anyone can remember any other political fads that were broadcasted to the public with a message of immenant peril feel free to chime in.

BTW, I wish Toyota would stop spending time on the Hybrids and get busy on the new Land Cruiser.
