2007 Mercedes-Benz S550 Road Test

Auto123.com has taken the time to test out the new S-Class, specifically the S550, and see what all the hype is about. Well just like any other site that has reviewed the Mercedes flagship, Auto123 has nothing but positive things to say about the car, from the design to the engine, everything seems to have impressed them.

Glad to see that Mercedes is finaly getting the reviews that they deserve. Not to say that they didn't have a bad couple of years, but they truly do make a fine auto

the article indicates that you don't get ventilated seats on the s class. do you?

I’m looking for a new car, and had a free afternoon to test drive a pewter silver S550. This is my 2nd time driving the S.

It drives suprisingly small for such a relatively large car. Obviously, you can’t throw it in a corner like the M3, as the mass still intimidates. But, the handling/ride trade-off is very good. Very confidence inspiring. Not at all floaty. The rear-view camera really helps when parking.

The 5.5 V8 can snap your head back and the acceleration will surprise you. Decent sounds coming from the hood too.

IMO, even with just the base car (sans AMG cladding) the exterior is easy on the eyes, very elegant, and has a glorious road presence. The speedometer is graphics driven, and not a typical dial that you would see in 99% of cars….very cool.

I haven’t driven the 750i or the LS460, but after spending a few hours with the S550 I am smitten. The car is great, you’re gonna pay for it, but for the sake of absolute motoring excellence it may be worth it.

Here's to hoping that MB can keep this one out of the shop. This is a truly beautiful car and it would be a shame if it ends up having as many issues as the E.
