Acura TL and Lexus IS top redesigned 2007 Infiniti G35 in Road & Track comparo

Road & Track put the new 2007 Infiniti G35 in last place in its comparo with the Lexus IS350 and Acura TL.

Conclusion:

"but for now, the Lexus IS350 is the king of the Japanese import hill."

Do you agree with the conclusion?

For now yes, but I don't think the word "Kind" is right word just yet.
I don't think Lexus can be all that happy ant at peace.
Concidering the TL is an old car and don't forget it's a front wheel drive car.

If the Acura were a front wheeler, it would have not only trempled the Lexus, but even the 3series would be another meal as well.

Yes! for now Lexus is enjoying the title for being the better of the three, but it will only be for a short time.

wow, an argument over who is second place lol, i guess they just avoided putting the 335i in this test at all.

Well... being that the 335i is NOT japanese, it would not be among this list.

That's simply ridiculus. Anyone who test drives these car knows TL got to be the last. Unfocused platform and understeer by nature all the way. G35 is best at handling/driving, but not very smooth and needs more effort to drive to its full potential. IS350 is best built, very focused platform, fast at straightline, and, you definitely feel 'Luxury' that's lacking in the other 2 cars..... though I absolutely hate the electric assisted steering, numb as Camry. I can never figure why Lexus hold this potentially great car back w/ that steering. Hope it'll got switched back to hydraulic for coupe then I'll consider trade in my G.

I have the magazine in my hands right now, and I think it is absurd that the IS350 got a perfect 20 in driving excitement, engine, steering, brakes, ride, handling, fuel economy, 0-60 time, 0-1/4 mi time, slalom. (although it says porportioal scale, still...)

No car is "perfect" It is impossible to have a "perfect" engine, perfect brakes, etc....
My rankings?
1. TL-S comfortable, smooth, roomy, quick, value, good handling for FWD
2. G35 Sporty, quick, and a good value if you can get by the styling.
3. IS350 Fastest, worst styling (strictly IMO), small cabin, high price, and why a slushbox?

Oh, and 19.5 mpg is far from "perfect".

Why are they using a porportional system? It makes comparing across several models very difficult. Stupid, stupid...

A member of my family owns a 04 TL. I picked it purely on that is was good at everything, not because it was great at one thing.

I agree w/ your relative that IS350 is fast and better in terms of building quality, but you can never call it sporty, because the steering system simply sucks.

R&D says the Lexus is hella good looking.

Note: don't use Gwen Stefani slang verbage.

Of those 3 cars I would get the Lexus IS350 in that red color and beige interior.

I really like Acura, but the TL isn't very attractive.

You can't go wrong with the IS or G.

In my opinion the IS350 is the best looking followed by the G35 and the TL is just ugly. I would have put the G35 ahead of the TL.

In fact I think the 3 series sedan looks better than the TL. I didn't like the 3er much, but the styling is growing on me.

I voted the TL best looking...and its the oldest car of the bunch...Just standbye for the all new TL.

This is funny because Edmunds had done a comparison between the Mid-size models and the results places are exactly the same with the Gs coming in first the RL coming in second and the M45 coming in third. I wonder how the results would have been if the 3 and 5 where thrown into the bunch.

Take A Look:

It all depends on what you want from a car.

Excerpted from Edmunds: "If your driveway is shaped like the Nurburgring, and your commute includes a few laps of Laguna Seca, your $50,000 should be spent on the 2006 Infiniti M45 Sport. It's the hot rod of the bunch, outaccelerating, outbraking and outhandling the other two with ease."

That's why I choose INFINITI.

The G35 is the better sports sedan in my book. Firstly, it offers a stick which is one of the biggest factors in why people even purchase a sports sedan. Second, the G35 has continually impressed editors with its driving dynamics. Something tells me they put the Lexus in first because of its quick straightline speed - hardly a good measure of measuring the sports car qualities of a car.

I'd go as far to say that the Acura TL, despite FWD, is sportier than the Lexus. To me, the Lexus IS is a luxury car that is "marketed as a sports sedan but isn't one."

Bill I bet you've never driven any of these cars, yet you prejudge and say that the Lexus IS350 is the worst of the three, why don't you get your head out of your Mercedes tail pipe(aka A$$) and test drive one of these vehicles, before you give negative comments about the IS350!!

You know Mr. 2JZSoarer,

I could say the same damn thing about you. And for your information, I've driven the Lexus IS when I was looking for a car for my daughter. It wasn't the '350 but the '250 and I was not impressed at all. The brakes felt wobbly, the steering wasn't direct and it didn't drive like anything special. Or maybe that's because I tried the BMW 3-Series and Audi A4 prior to the Lexus.

Also, we all know that Lexus doesn't target BMW: that's a marketing gimmick. Lexus targets brands like Jaguar and Mercedes, not sports oriented brands like BMW. Every review I've read of the Lexus IS says it is a nice car, but it is not a 3-Series killer.

Well actully I have driven the IS350 and Audi A3,but unlike you I'm not giving the avantage to the other brands that I have not driven (infiniti and Acura)!I have also driven the older 3-series,though the handling felt good, but thats were the avantages ended, the styling was bland, and the performance was not too good,so please don't hype up the new one, because if it wasn't for the Turbos the engine would probably be under powered, and Don't bring up the M3 becuase it not in the same price range!!

Why do Acura and INFINITI (not Infinity!) "suck"? Because they're not as fast as the Lexus IS350? Nice mentality.

What is good actualy is that LEXUS can be challenged also by japenese cars. It's not just German cars and LEXUS anymore. Now LEXUS has to be very careful also about it's Japanese rivals. And it absolutly good because all of those brands will try to do their best to becom the best.

Why is it that every feature related to a Nissan or Infiniti presented by Agent 001 always involve it losing out to Lexus,Acura or BMW? I've never seen anything positive about Nissan/Infiniti from this person. There seems to be a lack of respect overall on this site for Nissan/Infiniti products despite the amazing turnaround from near death of this corporation just a few years back. Please, from now on don't make it so obvious about your love for LexToys,AcHons, and Bimmers. I agree that they make great cars but be a little more subjective and unbiased. In response to R&T comparo there must be some sort of new improved crack on the market that they smoked prior to submitting this article! No further comments at this time.

I had a 3 series first, then I bought a G35. Itpretty much sums up my opinion about these 3 Japanese brand. Infiniti is the most sporty, but it's attention to details is way behind Lexus, if not BMW, which is really going down w/ the new 3. What Infiniti needs now is to refine their car, not a horsepower war w/ others.

I have a lot of respect for the infinti products. the G 35 and Coupe G35 would be my second choice behind the 3 series with the lexus is 3rd, and the fx suv, is on par with the new x5 as best looking suv on the planet lexu lexus IS 3rd, and i think the FX suv is the best looking SUV o lexus IS getting a honorable me Lexus IS getting a honorable mention. I like the i.

I'd take the IS hands down as well. I can't stand the looks the of the G35. I used to love the TL and still think it is a good value for the money, but the design has not aged well at all.

I like the IS, but ended up going with a new 3 series coupe. I feel that if they may have offered a manual in the IS350 I would of taken a closer look.

I'm an Infiniti person. It's just that to me the G is the most exciting in this pack. The Lexus is more luxuary but the feel is not the same as the G.
Just my oppinion!

I think everyone would agree that the TL is trailing the G and IS. It's about time to redesign it.
