OFFICIAL: BMW Z2 ON THE WAY BY 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well it seems bmw is adding ANOTHER model to their lineup; the z2. I searched on autospies and there didn't seem to be any article officially announcing the arrival of the future z2. Some spy shots etc. but nothing official. So it looks like it may arrive in 2010 (even wikipedia put it in their bmw model list) and will cost arround $30000. But how will this affect mini cabrio sales? And primary competitors? Considering the usual competitors Audi, MB, Lexus etc. don't have anything to compete, it would probably go against with the lower end 2-seaters such as the Miata.

Anyways what do you guys think? Better or worse "Bangle-ish" design than z4?

I know it is coming, but where does it say it is official? I don't like the lights or the grille on this photoshop (?). The lights should be bigger, and the grille more rounded. Body is nice, though.

Oh, and what happened to my article on the Ford Transit?

Autoart, I like your profile of "Don't judge a book by its cover? Don't judge a car by its badge." Very true

you're right, official may be the wrong word, But I think we can all agree that the z2 is on the way. However it may need a few adjustments in its body design to gain my full approval. And thanks Mustangpony for the compliment.

Not official. You are right that the usual suspects don't have a vehicle like the rumored Z2.

But here is something official, the Audi A5 will debut at Geneva this year.

I like the sharp look, nice front. Why do you need bigger lights?

I dont see what the A5 has to do with this nice Z2.

Will,

Miata was never considered to be competition for the Z4 and is quite a bit smaller.

The Z2 essentially will compete agianst the Miata and provide a classy/better handling/sportier alternative in the segment for not much more $$$.

Okay Will, how about this....

Tell me what will justify people going out and spending the money that BMW will charge for a car to compete in a very small category of vehicles? Why not just buy the Miata or a used S2000? Maybe, MAYBE an SLK or even a Mini (but then they would be cannibalizing their own company).

I just don't really see the need for a car in that market when they already have the Z4 which is an amazing car.

the Z4 is considered an SLK and TT competitor. THe Miata on the other hand compete's with mini cabrio, beetle cabrio, pontiac solctice, and the slightly pricier saturn sky. The z2 will therefore be competing in the latter market.
