Here is an idea...if you go out drinking, take a cab, train, bus, metro, donkey, big wheel, etc... Your going to spend more money on your booze than that $10-$15 fare and it just might save your life....egads!, what a concept.

A person who is very tired displays the same symptoms of a drunk driver, so how does this tell the difference?

I've seen studies that say that a tired driver can actually be MORE damgerous than a drunk one...I guess you can avoid object better with beer goggles than if you're asleep! Anyways the point is this could kill two birds by stopping sleepy and drunk drivers.

I would say that most people who drink and drive cannot afford a new Toyota much less a Lexus.

What if you go out for a drive and start drinking while driving? That was a favorite of ours in high school and college. Nothing like cruising while having a beer or a screwdriver.

Way to easy too defeat. Gloves, glasses, what is erratic, what if the car is on the track (Toyotas never are) maybe a step in the right direction but.

Agree Chewy, this feature would be out-smarted before it hit the market. The only thing that will stop drunk driving is the threat of getting a DUI/DWI or the thought of killing someone else or yourself while driving (for 99% out there, anyway).

Question.....what happens if someone is "drunk" and being pursued by an aggressor/attacker in the parking lot and can't start their car because their car thinks they are too drunk.

- I'd rather get a DUI/DWI for being .01 over the limit (or whatever my car thinks I should be) than DEAD!!!

Saab developed a key that you had to blow into before you could start the car -if you were over the limit, the car wouldn't go.

Oh sure, a sober person could start the car for you if you asked them, but what responsible person would risk the lives of his friends?
