We all know what makes us choose a particular marquee. Maybe reliability, performance, even gas mileage. But the Detroit News in conjunction with JD Power has taken it one step further by quantifying why we avoid certain marquees.
Poor perceived reliability tops the list for vehicular avoidance, as does poor quality. But other factors such as maintenance and depreciation and simply being boring also factor in as well.
Surprisingly enough the survey reveals that while European automakers experience more unexpected repairs annually (imagine that), the combined annual unexpected repair costs and routine maintenance combined show them slightly less overall to own than the their Asian counterparts. European also faired best in overall economy scores as a group as well.
While 48% of us will consider an American make in our initial choices, a full 23% of us avoid them due to the financial instability of these marquees.
