to be honest, i didnt much like this car, its starting to grow on me, not he ultimate luxury car, but they look better in person than in pics so ill give them credit it looks nice in person, but i dont get the point of a "v12" alternative.....so what about the power, you can get "V12" power out of 6,8, or 10 cylinder engine.....a v12 is a prestige thing it has little to do with power...thats why the 760i has a v12 and not a v10 or turbo v8, and same for the s600, and audi a8 w12, they all know they can get more power with better fuel economy with a smaller engine, but its the number of cylinders that counts.

Wow, who ever said that it can keep up with the MB S600, the LS600hl has yet to be sold or tested by a magazine. Wait beofre you speak, the S600 clears 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and the quarter mile in 12.5 seconds @ 115 mph. The A8 does it in 5.1 seconds and the S8 in 4.7. Wait Will.

Yes, it gets better economy, surely. But no, you're mistaken about it keeping up with the S600. They're of similar curb weight, but the S600 has over 510hp. It's quite easily the quickest car in the class. The LS600hL compares more evenly with the W12 and 760Li.

Oh and, chewy, the W12 has actually been clocked in under five seconds.

The LS600hL is a looker, but I hate the wheels. They don't go with the car at all.

I think it would look 200% better if they used some sweet 19" five-spokes. Those wheels look like they belong on an M3 or something.

Otherwise, it should compare favorably with the 760Li, if not the W12 or S600. I hope it's quicker than the 7- the 7 Series weighs more and has the same power, I believe.

Remember when the Saks S600 was released? It sold out in like thirty minutes, I think.

The LS600hl will be an amazing car. People who keep using raw horsepower numbers to say the Lexus isn't a match for the Mercedes S600 don't see the point.
Lexus first of all isn't trying to officially enter the fierce German horsepower wars, where Mercedes is the undisputed leader in both horsepower and straightline torque.(To constantly maintain this edge, it is obvious Mercedes lately is concentrating more on increasing engine displacement '[the american way]', rather than squeezing more power out of a smaller displacement [the Japanese way].)
Lexus made it clear in the beginning that they will make their ultraflagship different than others. And they have done that by making it a powerful hybrid with total horsepower numbers in the typical competitive V-12 range. V-12 power with V-8 fuel economy. With over 430 horsepower, it definitely can hold it's own against the S600 in, and I stress, everyday driving situations. This talk of 0 to 60, quarter mile etc....I'm sure all the car magazines(esp. Car and Driver) will be nitpicking these things. But for your everyday driving situation, the difference isn't so big. And the target group of people who drive S600's and the new Lexus LS600hl will be business guys or even having people driving the cars for them. They're concerned more with comfort and luxury rather than 0 to 60.
