DETROIT AUTO SHOW: Ford Interceptor

Pretty cool, actually.

Yeah it is not bad, but the hood looks kinda like a toilet seat.

What in the hell is wrong with the rear of that car? From the front wheels forward it is nice.

Sometimes going too retro is a bad thing.

^ HA HA HA...good one. True though.

Don't like the rear around the bumper, or the head lamps, headrests are novel but stupid.

Too bad the most promising car from Ford in a long time came in the form of a blatant Chrysler 300C look-alike, with its shrunken glass house and block-like form.

Also, the top photo gives me the impression this is more boat than car, although I still find it attractive.

Either way, it shows that American car companies can do only one of two things when coming up with a new model: Make a blatant rip-off of an existing American car (Chevrolet HHR -PT Cruiser, Interceptor -300C) or go stupidly retro.

In this instance, Ford has done both. Here's how I think it played out:

Take a retro 300C, then make a caricature of it in the form of the Interceptor, then make that even more retro than the 300C, in effect you have a double-shot retro caricature of a 300C.

When will American car companies admit that retro just doesn't cut it anymore, and move forward.

You know, like Chrysler's 'cab forward' design technique of the 90's.

Besides, weather or not you love this car or not, it will be old-hat in a few months as the novelty of a big retro saloon wears off, leaving us to pay our attentions to the kinky 'new' Focus and the tragically-uninspiring 500.

Ford, in effect, has gone nowhere. This concept is just a clever diversion that may or may not go into production as a lacklustre, diluted version of itself.

personally, i d buy a garbage over any retro styled american vehicle*

btw, it has a BMW shark fin on the back!!!! OMG Ford at least give it an effort!
