It really has nothin to do with the WRX. When I was 19 I did 140 with my 93 Maxima on the I-5 on my way to SF. The point is that when you're young you're careless and stupid. I wont deny that it was very exciting though.

what kind of stupid question is that djo6482, there are lot of parents who buy their kids fast and nice cars. Its the parents responsibility to teach the kids from a young age to be responsible.

nobody age 16 with an impreza is going to be responsible. i'm 16 and i would never let myself drive one, it's too dangerous. and dong 142? absolute idiot.

too dangerous to drive one? going 142 yeah. but now now... i've had a rex for 4 years now and there's been more than one time when that thing kept me on track, even with 205/16" winter tires that look like they should be on a motorcycle, the suspension and center of gravity on it will make you swear it defies the laws of physics. Like GTR35 said, you can do those speeds in cars with a lot less power, i don't think a wrx is what it is because of it's speed, but those invisible tracks that it seems to ride on... I also owned a two e46s before this and they don't even compare, with 18" rims, sport suspension and all... don't be scared of control

I'm sorry, but you don't teach responsibility by handing a 16 year old a car as capable as a WRX. Having once been a teenager myself, I know that the temptation will more than likely be too great. Not to mention the fact that any teenage passengers with the driver will not be encouraging him/her to slow down or drive responsively.

It's one thing if you're in the car with them, it's another thing if you're just tossing them the keys and saying "Have fun."

At 142 MPH, it just takes a little bump in the road or a small miscalculation on the driver's part to cause a horrific accident. Not to mention animals such as deer running across the highway.

In my opinion, part of being a responsible parent is teaching your kids how to drive correctly, the other part is making sure they are driving a car that's appropriate for their age/skills.

Most people are over their heads at 90MPH on a public road (but few realize it). 142 MPH for a 16 year old is a tragedy waiting to happen.

When I was 17 I went a buck-35 in my 330i. As long as you're on the 5 in the middle of CA with nobody on the road, assuming you know your car, you're fine.

I had to buy the Datsun I got from my father. The first car I ever had that was nicer than a 330i was my A6 2.7T! And I got it in my forties!

142 in any car is irresponsible on public roads. I myself have been guilty of driving at those speeds when I was younger and god only knows why I'm still alive today. Dumb luck maybe! As my driving skills have gotten better I can see all the mistakes that I've made in the past. When I was younger I knew everything. Now that I'm older, I realize I didn't know a damn thing. After I experienced my first high speed crash (side-swiping a wall at 90MPH racing on I-95) I realized that I was plain stupid. To think that if you can make a car go over 100MPH makes you a good driver...well I guess we all have to learn the hard way. After a few professional lessons from real instructors and not Playstation...I've been humbled!I've also learned to respect fate. You might be lucky this time...but everyone has their day!

Ah yes, I remember cruising at those speeds in my old 740iL on I-95 at 3:00 am.....those were the days (I was 16 at the time). Looking back it was a great time, but I wouldn't do it again.

Insurance (as I recall) was around $5,000/yr just for me and that was some time ago. Thankfully my parents picked up the bill - I was a fortunate kid

I remember two months ago when I was (insert age here), I went 130mph with the S4 at 1AM on the highway. Nobody was there. It was a hoot!

Thats I did 136mph in my 99' Maxima in Canada. Eventually got caught slowing down to 91 mph. Luckily the officer did not arrest me, the ticket cost 340 Canadian dollars. Got to love that exchange rate! I dont regret it though, its always a great story to tell.

When I was 17 I did 135 in my 92 Prelude Si. It was awesome getting it up that fast, but anyone that knows Hondas knows thats not the scary part- braking is. The entire car was shaking. Irresponsible? Absolutely. Did I care? Hell no!
