Top Gear: Mercedes SLR vs Porsche Carrera GT

Jeremy Clarkson reviews the Mercedes SLR and then brings out a car to compete in a short race. Put your hands together for the Porsche Carrera GT. The Mercedes SLR has a 5.5 liter V8 engine that produces 617 horse power while the Porsche Carrera GT has a 5.7 liter V10 engine that produces 605 horsepower. I'd take an R8 4.2 for my daily driver (that actually can fit a set of clubs behind the seats), and a 911 GT3 for my toy. Much less money, same performance.

prche sounds sick, but the interior of the porche looks really cheap and old. i mean come on if ur paying that much for a car, at least make the interior a little decent.But the SLR sounds pretty horible.

The Porsche's interior is quite cool, and futuristic, IMHO.

The SLR interior has nasty fake aluminum on the dashboard, like Lexuses of late. Not an expensive-feeling car, either.

BTW my local Mercedes dealer had an SLR on display, that they let you sit in if you were a potential customer.

SLR - the comfort and plushness of an SL and yet a mean contender on the track. sure makes for one hell of an everyday car. I love the Carrera GT's V10 howl though.

The McLaren F1 could get to 240mph thanks to BMW's wonderful engine. This just has a dumb mercedes engine.
