BMW Leaves US Out in the Cold for the M5 Wagon
BMW’s hottest property at the Geneva motor show in March will likely be an M5 Touring (wagon) version of its screaming M5 sedan. The high-performance load hauler is set to compete against the likes of the Audi S6 Avant and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG wagon, with power coming from the same highly strung 5.0-liter V10 engine used in the two-year-old M5 sedan.

As with the M5 sedan, the new car comes with BMW’s seven-speed M-sequential gearbox standard, along with an array of electronic driving aids, including an electronic controlled M-differential and a unique software program that allows the driver to choose between a detuned state for the engine, in which it develops 400 hp, or a peak setting that liberates its full 500 hp.

Yeah us Americans love our corssover/suvs, i don't. But i think to many americans of oldergenerations through wagons in the the catagory with minivans they represent old fassioned suburban lives and want to keep away from that, just a theory.

Yeah, plus americans would probably ask for stupid things like manual transmission even though BMW said it wasnt a good idea, then complain when they realise it wasnt a very good idea.

Of course they wouldn't bring it here... RS4 Avant and RS6 Avant didn't come here, E63 AMG Estate has never come here, and the M5 Touring has never come here (if that has ever existed before)... no surprise.

M5 touring was available when the E34 reigned... alas it proper Euro (LHD) only, we didn't even get it in the UK! (IIRC)

I feel like the X3 is dumbest mini-truck on the market. The 3 Series wagon looks better, handles better, has a bigger trunk, more rear seat space, a more attractive interior and it's faster. And it's cheaper!

I disagree. There's an undeniable coolness in most wagons of late.

I would much rather have an Audi S6 Avant than a Q7 S (if that comes out), or a 550i Touring over an X5 4.8i, an E63 wagon over an ML63, etc...

SUVs are on the way out, and Americans should realize that.

Volvo's and Allroads are very popular in the NY metro area. I have only seen 1 E55AMG wagon and the mom was literally droping the kids of for soccer practice.

Although, (you'll like this MDalle) if I bring myself to start leasing again, I can get a four-year lease on a $106K M6 convertible for under $1K/mo.

That's a pretty hot deal, but I'd have to get $25-30K on my S4 trade-in, and pay $5-10K in addition to the trade. It wouldn't be too hard.

If I wanted to be sensible and buy a car, the only BMW I'd consider would be the 650ci. I might not really need 500hp.

Then, there's also the XKR, Carrera, SL550, CLK63, and the possible CL550 if I would be willing to get a coupe.

This car is an awesome sleeper. I'm hoping that BMW brings this vehicle to the USA. At least give North American consumers to special order this vehicle would be appreciated. I've been waiting for the release of this vehicle for over a year and would definately lease/purchase this vehicle for many reasons I wouldn'
t disclose as it appears that there are many that fail to understand why such a vehicle exists.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. This is a good looking wagon. I've got the non-M version and get many compliments as it's not as common as the other 5ers.

I can't wait to get my own and get pleasure out of the jaw dropping folks in their good looking sports cars in my rear view mirror as they discover what they are sitting in lacks what it takes to keep up and unable to get alongside my quarter panel.

Bring the vehicle to the USA BMW!!!!!. I along with a couple hundred other consumers will own it. I've been waiting on this car for over a year and a half now. Bring over the pond to us here in the USA. There are a few of us here understand and know what having a wagon of this caliber means.
