Spy Shots: BMW Z9 More Photos
Here are first photos proving that BMW is about to continue after the famous Z8 with an all new Z9 roadster. However, while the Bavarian car maker sold a total of only 5703 units of the Z8, plans for the new sportscar are a production of 15000 cars per year – at a price per car from Eur 80.000 upwards. The prototype got caught amidst the city traffic in Munich.

mid-engine does not necessarily mean its better, as far a road cars go. example ferrari 599 is just as good if not better than the lambo lp640. Its personal preference.

Agent009, I hate to say this but that is not the Z9, it is the new Z4. And it will be having an uptuned N54 engine.

The design of the Z9 has not been approved yet- it is a long shot from where we are now.
It is the E89 like TimE mentioned. It is heavily camoed. If you look at the front, and see how recessed the lights are, and the side bulge, you can see through the camo.

You will see a V8 in this as the Z4 M before you see a V12 engine in it.

what leads me to believe this is something other than the next z4 is the soft top, it is much more stream line than the z4 and z3's.Also if you look at the side window there is a little quarter type window behind it, which is not on the z4.The rear end is also much larger. The recessed lights mean nothing, other than the front will be sculpted and flowing. Also Z4's are made in America. This was spotted in Munich.

It is the predecessor to the Z4 (E89) although there is a debate of whether to call it the Z4 or Z6, but all indications seems to point to it remaining as the Z4.
The final product will be a hardtop.
The extra size is all due to the heavy camo.

Admiralt20 omg you make such a compelling argument,i dont know why I didnt just agree with you in the first place. You support your claim that is the z4 so well.

I hope this is the Z9 and not the new Z4 - BMW needs a premium roadster.

The good news for Z4 owners is that all of the spy/shop photos of the new model to debut in 2008/09 as a 2009/10 model year doesn't apear all that diiferent than the current model.

It won't be like October of 2002 when the Z4 blew all of the Z3 owners out of the water.

They don't "need" a premium roadster; there's almost no market and they wouldn't do wonders for their profitability.

It's just the ubiquitous German car company's urge to compete. Audi is ill with the same thing- look at the R8. Then there's Mercedes, with its never-ending AMG 1,000,000hp line.
