Audi Tipped for Premium Brand Segment Leadership by 2015
Helped by the achievement of a sixth successive record sales year by Audi UK, the Vorsprung durch Technik brand has exceeded its past worldwide sales totals for the eleventh year running, prompting speculation that it is set to become the world’s most successful premium brand by 2015. Globally, 905,100 vehicles were delivered to customers in 2006, up from 829,109 in 2005, representing an increase of 9.2 percent, or almost 76,000 cars. A total of 41 markets set new sales records, including Germany, France, Spain, Italy, China and the USA. Audi UK recorded a 5.7 percent increase, reaching a new peak of 86,003 cars, up from 82,496 in 2005 - the sixth year in succession in which it has raised the bar. The USA remains the largest Audi export market, with sales up 8.5 percent from 83,066 to a record 90,116, followed closely by the UK.

Hey, remember China?

Even when Audi gains a larger foothold in NA (which they will, with all the new cars and the new ad company), China is poised to become the world's #1 car market-- where Audi is clearly the leading premium brand.

Yeah, but Audi is a Premium brand and the majority of Chinese will not be able to afford a luxury car (just like everywhere yes, but the numbers are smaller in developing countries).

Ads do help sales in NA.

I agree North America is important. audi has just finished it;'s 11th growth year here. I was in China a few months ago. There are Audis everywere. There is lots of money and it is almost scary how fast things are growing there. Most of the buildings were not there 10 years ago. I saw large malls and very expensive stores and this is in Chandu not Shangi or Bejing.

China's middle class is 300 million! US' entire population is 300 million. Do the math. China is investing in the infrastructure to accommodate millions of cars. They have already banned bicycles on most busy streets in many large cities.

Yep, Audi is introducing cars in segments that it has never had any in, the A5 and the Q5. That will bring in some sales for sure.

What do you base this on?

Like I said, China is becoming the world's biggest market in a matter of years, and Audi is the leader there.

Times change; BMW won't be on top forever. If it has to be Mercedes or Audi (or even Lexus- they could go global), it doesn't matter which, BMW will be beaten eventually.

No the typical Audi is 1/2 price here in North America.

"The company said the prices of the 6.0-litre Audi A8 would range from 1.8 million yuan (US$216,860) to 2.1 million yuan (US$253,000) in China, depending on the model."

In my time in China I was about 8 BMWs 5 MBs and 300 Audis. This is not a mistatement. China will have smaller engines in most cases because of the tax laws for engines sizes

The 4.2-litre Q7, retailing between 1.12 million yuan (US$140,000) and 1.29 million yuan (US$161,000), will go head-to-head with SUVs from BMW, Mercedes and Land Rover, he said.

Oh and, Gogo- to say that Audi's Chinese models are cheaper, like it's an excuse for their sales numbers, is unjustified. BMW offers equally inexpensive models there, as does Mercedes.

again the cars are much more expensive here then in the USA. The build quality could be less though in China but that I am jsut guessing

TT wont sell that many, same with A5, A4 and A6 will still be main sellers the other two are niche cars. There is a long step to reach the sales as BMW and MB have in the US.

But who cares which is bigger? i dont, just as long we have several car makers to choose from, because we all got different taste.

Sometimes i think there are so many fools in here, my car is better than your car, my dad can beat your dad!

Come on grow up, enjoy that the carmakers try harder and harder to compete to give us the best product they can make.

And the TT won't sell that many based on what??
It will sell quite well but not as many as the A4 or A6 of course.
The ooutgoing TT was still outselling the Z4 btw.

2015 is 8 years away. In that time anything could happen, such as GM buying DCX, or Toyota buying BMW so who knows where Audi will be in the rankings?

Also 8 years is plenty of time for someone to report that current Audis will accelerate if you hit the accelerator!
