yes Fords are reliable keeping mechanics busy so they can feed their family and pay their bills.

toyota has already done this with gm. notable products of that alliance:

toyota corolla/chevrolet prism
toyota matrix/pontiac vibe

both were winners for toyota and losers for gm, despite being essentially the SAME car in both cases. it certainly makes sense that toyota would seek another deal, but i fail to see how a similar deal will benefit ford.

Ford can learn how Toyota makes money.

My guess would be a sharing of some kind of hybrid technology, since Ford already has a good thing going on with Mazda and small cars and 4 cyl engines.

Anika Skywalker was a good boy strong with the Force and then he turned to the darkside. Toyota should learn from that. I think Toyota would develop/embrace Ford's bad habits before Ford learned anything from Toyota.

My guess? Toyota would take all the premium brands when they got a divorce- and they'd bring Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover to perfection. Aston Martin is already perfect.

If it were to become a full merger or takeover, Ford would pull Toyota down with its UAW workforce - a bad move for Toyota.

Instead, Toyota should consider buying Land Rover and Volvo from Ford.

Land Rover: Imagine a Range Rover with Range Rover exterior and interior + Land Cruiser powertrain.

Volvo: Imagine a bullet-proof Volvo chassis + reliable Toyota powertrain.

I agree with most here that such alliance would not help Toyota much than it would help Ford.

Beacuse It's nearly ALL GIVE and nearly No TAKE(except Aston MArtin,from whom Toyota can take something) For toyota.Like Trueno said.

Volvo with reliable Toyota powertrain.

I think Toyota should better remain alone and independent like Honda.

Other than topic, now something on HONDA's Independence:

Honda's independent streaks have brought them where they r today.While FORD,GM and Daimler-benz - the second,third and fourth most valuable companies in the world by market capitalisation ten yars ago got fatter and lost shareholder value,Honda ha blossomed.

In 1996,Honda was the world's sixth most valuable car company,worth just over half as much as number two maker Ford.Since then, in absolute terms,only TOYOTA is more valuable.Honda is now worth more than four times as much as(bigger but woefully unprofitable)Ford.

All in all i Hope Toyota atleast now learn something from Honda(independence).And refrain from forming any New alliances.

Honda had a partnership with Isuzu for sometime,remember the Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo and the Acura that was the same as the Isuzu Trooper,looks like Honda wasn't so independent after all!!
