German sales numbers for 2006

I think it's funny that the three luxury brands are among the top five biggest brands in Germany.

Of course, they're not really luxury brands there- you can get a Benz for the price of a Golf.

VW and Audi are doing very well.

vw in britain is seen as a dcent car for the upper middle class. a golf was THE city car for upper class families, then audi cashed in with the a3, the the a class (a lot of indians in britain bought that), then the 1 series.
vw has a very good reputation, the passat is sometimes seen as near luxury like saab and volvo.

VW is a mess, kept afloat in Europe by its wide range of brands including SEAT, SKODA and VW. Including these brands it has too many models, engineering spread too thin, and tough competition from luxury brands moving down market.

What is more funny is that the VW headquarters are in America, Auburn Hills Michigan to be exact, and Daimler Chysler(another American Corp) is Benz. American dominating again, I LOVE IT! now don't hate, appreciate!

VW of America may be based in America, but guy get the real facts here. VW is based in Wolfsburg I believe and DM is based in Stuttgart. Also DaimlerBenz took over Chrysler Corp. not the other way around. Ever wonder why the DM CEO is German???

Doesn't a Focus cost around 15,000 pounds??? That is, when looking at the current exchange rates, $29k. Why would I want to pay that much for a Focus???

the cheapest car in that class costs about 10000 pounds, thats a 1.4 citroen c4 (that looks so cool).
cars are just more expensive here, but don't forget these prices are after 17.5% of VAT (tax), which obviously raises the price by quite a bit. so a 10000 pound citroen actually costs 8500 before tax. a 335i coupe here (just as a price comparison) starts at 65000 dollars roughly. take off the VAT and it comes down to 55000 dollars.

Interesting to look at the numbers from 2005 to 2006 (Germany):

VW: +67,138
Mercedes: -1,127
BMW, Mini: +6,488
Audi: +13,591

VW had about an 11% increase over last year, Audi about 5.4%, BMW about 2.2% and Mercedes was slightly negative.

Audi is growing at more than twice the rate of BMW. Mercedes is flat. VW made a huge leap from last year.

My observations were based on the sales numbers. No opinions, just the data.

Audi also had lost sales because of old models like the TT. The Q7 has only been out for 6 months. Also, Audi has some gaps in its lineup, which will be soon filled by the upcoming A5, Q5 and later Q3.

Thanks for your data driven analysis. Much Appreciated. Also, I havesaid this several times...load these cars up ina similar fashion a nd audi is a clear 15% (or higher) cheaper thana a BMW.. If you were to allow for that, Audi would be at less than Half the sales of BMW, adjusting for the premium curve. What people dont understand here is how ominating of a position BMW and Benz actually have. if you dont beleive me, just look at the VW numbers.. only reason they sell is because of (relative price).
