VW Scirocco, VW Golf, VW Passat: Major Facelifts of New Models Announced!

I have a 2006 Passat too, this hurts.

Why does it hurt, it will probably take a year or more for the updates. Does VW make enough money to waste engineering resources on minor design changes?

Why not redirect the engineering effort into creating the next hippie minivan, or making the Polo suitable for the US market?

What's the point of bringing the Polo here?

S4 the Polo could compete with the Honda Fit and Nissan Versa and maybe the Toyota Yaris and Scions

No V10 anymore for the Touareg. The Touareg maybe a dumb SUV, but its V10 is great.

Yes, a sub 15,000 car will be here for VW in the future. Hopefully a new gen Polo, Lupo is not made anymore, the Fox is not a car for the states. Winterkorn did an excellent job with Audi, can't wait to see what he can do with the entire VAG.

I never liked that metal grill on the IROC. It needs to be toned down a bit. Also the shape is nice but it's still a hatchback instead of a coupe. VW already has a GTI.

Not sure what they'll do to the Passat. It looks fine as is.

I don't like the dash on the Passat. The exterior is fine though.

VW USA needs leadership badly and to make a profit that has not been made since 2002.

The big deal about the Polo is that a new, concept version, which is not much of a stretch from the current model, keeps a 1.4 TDI (diesel); employs a diesel particulate filter; emits a very small amount of CO2; gets 75 mpg; and would sell for less than $17K.

For the U.S., it would still need an advanced, De-Nox system to meet fifty-state compliance through 2010.

This may make the concept unachievable in an economic sense. People would have to pay a $4,000 premium or more over the other tiny vehicles sold in the U.S. (Fit, Versa, Aveo, or Yaris). The competition produces the cheapest product possible, which is what people expect to pay for subcompacts.

As for the V10, it is over kill. VW makes a 3.6 V6 TDI that they put in the Touareg throughout most of the world. This much more modest engine can still compete with a mid-size, V8 gassers in performance; it gets about 40% better fuel economy; less greenhouse gases; and can much more easily meet 2007--and beyond--emissions standards.

The V10 is a diesel guzzler for a vehicle with that little utility and really makes no sense other than satisfying race-inspired Americans who are willing to sacrifice American lives to satisfy their thirst for going fast.
