Sketch: BMW X6 could look like this…
Since all the spy shots you see of the BMW X6 with heavy disguise, we thought its about time you guys see a picture of what the car may look like with out the weird black masks. In this sketch, from Auto-Motor-Sport, you can see that the BMW X6 will have a sportier design and alignment, and will be way more aggressive than the BMW X5. BMW has already confirmed production of the BMW X6 which is expected to make its official appearance in early 2008.

Automotive News reported the other day that BMW is preparing their South Carolina assembly line to build around 40,000 vehicles of new SUV and will cost somewhere around $50,000.

I loathe the idea of this vehicle, but I must admit, that's a cool picture.

the shouldn't make this it's going to look a lot like the x5. they should just stick with two suvs the x5 and x3. this one might ruin some sells for either the x5 or x3.

Since when are you so 100% biased towards everything Germany?

It's an extravagant idea, but no, don't build it, please.

BMW should build only a few of these SAV's.

There I solved the problem.

I just don't get the point of this vehicle. Early on the buzz was this was going to be like a four door 6-series coupe, a la the CLS, but slightly higher off the ground and with all-wheel drive. The photoshops of the four door M6 floating around looked awesome. Instead we're getting an SAV that's too small to do anything with? The only new SAV BMW should be considering is a larger one like an X7, something that actually seats 7 people like a Lexus GX/LX, Audi Q7, and Mercedes GL. What does this X6 accomplish?

I agree with JRobUSC.

An X7 with accomodation for 7 people would be excellent. The larger-than-X5 SAV can still be a "driver's" vehicle, just a bit more powerful, stable, and luxurious than the current X5. As those you like the 7-series, the X7 should appeal to those you enjoys the 7-series size, features, and prestige. With a dual-mode gas-electric hybrid transmission in the works...this would be an excellent platform to use the energy-consious powertrain.

"The larger-than-X5 SAV can still be a "driver's" vehicle, just a bit more powerful, stable, and luxurious than the current X5."

Yes, it really can. Look at the GL. It's been commended because of its dynamics. The Q7 really has, too. It's been noted to be a "gorgeous sports sedan, but raised".

What a surprise!

And if the Q7 had a BMW badge on the hood, what would you think of it?

"Oh, so beautiful!"

"What a nice interior. Way better than any Audi."

"it's a great drivers car guys. much better than any suv audi could come up with"

isn't the x6's only rival the x5? seems a bit odd.
i hate the idea of this vehicle.

Hello, the X6 is supposed to compete with the R-Class

RupertRupert - 1/19/2007 6:06:36 PM

ummm no.
there is a lot of confusion.
this car is a "sportier" X5. 5 seats, low roofline etc.
this does not compete with the R class, that is a job for the V5. (and i do mean V)

No, Rupert's right. Does this look anything like an R-Class to you?

I've heard rumors that X6 would be a four-door coupe, a raised two-door SUV, a sportier X5, a van-sports-tourer-POS... what is it?

dumpstydumpsty - 1/19/2007 3:31:47 PM

I think the X6 is competition for larger luxury SUVs (Q7, R & GL-Class, Escalade, Navigator, QX56, Land Cruiser, LX470, Range Rover).

Though the X6 may not be as large as some SUVs I mentioned above, the pricing will allow it to be cross-shopped by those who can afford any (or all) of them.

I think its closest competitor would be the Q7. They're both more about flair and driving dynamics than ultimate practicality. That's the Q7's only downfall when compared to the GL.

That is, until an X7 comes out. THAT would be closer to the Q7 than an X6.

I think all of you are wrong.I think that the X6 will be the A6 Allroad's rival. Why is BMW need a 7 seat SUV (SAV) isn't the new X5 a 7 seater?

Oh how utterly groovy! An artist who doesn't work for BMW is sharing some of his artwork with us, showing how *he* images a BMW vehicle might look, if the design was up to him alone.

It's a "first," and Autospies has it! And useful, too! Way to go!
