Kumho, a tire manufacturer, has created a new tire called the Kumho Ecsta DX Aroma. Th new Kumho Ecsta DX Aroma tires are the is the world’s first tires to have a pleasent smell rather than burnt rubber smell. The first tire scent that Kumho will sell will be lavender, other smells including orange and jasmine will follow.

The tire is targeted at female consumers who drive such sedans as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Subaru Outback, Chrysler Sebring and Ford Taurus.

The Ecsta DX Aroma tire will be sold through Discount Tire stores and TireRack.com starting in the first quarter of 2007 in three sizes: 205/60R16 (MSRP $119), 215/60R16 (MSRP $125) and 235/60R16 (MSRP $138). The tires can be delivered and affixed to passenger vehicles at a KUMHO tire dealer.

When I first heard about this, I told a female acquaintance of mine about lavender smelling tires. I expected a reaction to the tone of "that’s ridiculous!" Instead I got, "They should make strawberry too. Not that many people like lavender." She was dead serious.

I thought the apocalypse would certainly be right around the corner when people start driving on scented tires; but apparently, I still way over estimate my understanding of the female mind; even those I associate with regularly.
