Toyota to Unveil New 2008 Highlander & Highlander Hybrid

Toyota today said that it will be unveiling the new 2008 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid SUV s at the 2007 Chicago Auto Show. This will be the first major overhaul design wise and performance wise on the Toyota Highlander since its debut during 2001. The 2008 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is also expected to get more mileage than the current model.

The Toyota press conference will take place on Wednesday, February 7 at 9:15 A.M. CT in the Grand Ballroom in McCormick Place. A video clip of the press conference will be available for viewing following the event on the Toyota.com website.

The RX is already on the next-generation platform. The Highlander is on the RX300 (last-gen for you Brits who still have the 300) platform.

This new Highlander will be on the RX350/400h platform, I presume- it won't skip ahead two generations.

I am hoping for the I-4 hybrid as well. Approximately 190 hp, plus 30+mpg (real world) and clean emissions seems like a perfect match for this vehicle. The current 3.3hybrid makes no sense, as the 3.5 is so powerful and efficient.

last time i checked, bangle led BMW to success. Not to mention this thing is sooo bland, even bangle wouldnt make it aggressive enough, it would become just normal.

i suspect INTENTIONALLY made the highlander a plain, uninspired box at the beginning, to not steal sales from its more glamorous (but with a lower cargo capacity) sister, the RX300.

with the success of the RX now assured, toyota can pull out the stops on the new Highlander.
