Intentionally Misled?: The Dirt on Bogus Automotive News Reporting

In 2004, as part of a settlement of an 8-year-old lawsuit, Consumer Reports said that its finding about the Suzuki Samurai SUV – that it “easily rolls over in turns” – applied only to severe swerving turns on the test track. In other words, Consumer Reports was testing the vehicles at much higher speeds than normal and essentially "set-up" the test so the Samurai (photo), the kind of vehicle which CR had complained about for years because they simply don't like them, would do poorly.

What CR almost succeeded in doing was destroying Suzuki as a vehicle-marketer in the USA. But there's more, plenty, plenty more false attacks against an easy business to go after --- the auto industry and their deep pockets.

were they testing ALL vehicles at these speeds?? i find it hard to believe that they would intentionally test other suvs at regular speeds and suzukis at unusually high speeds to try and flip them...

i guess i'm asking about the consistency of the test results

Yep, never trust 60 minutes and any other "special (lies) report" all done for ratings and possibly with hidden special agenda.

Well from what I have read about it. CR didn't want to say this but the courts are making them say it. basicly CR lost to Suzuki because Suzuki was able to prove that CR lied in its reporting. they claimed to use the Federal standards in there testing when they really used there own and reported they used the feds.

I do not trust CR. To many times they have made up crap. I also do not trust Car & Driver.
