VIDEO: 001 reviews the best all around SUV in the world?

Believe it or not, even though gas prices are higher than ever, people are still flocking to right-sized SUV's.

And it makes sense.

When you can only afford one vehicle, that one vehicle has to do it all.

And SUV's like the new BMW X5 are hard to top for usefullness and everyday practicality and utility.

The old BMW X5 was a great product.

It was the best looking and its sales success was impressive.

The "claimed" Best SUV in the world can be turned into the worst SUV if driven by an idiot. And there are plenty of those around when little while flakes drop from the sky.

Saw plenty of that yesterday in the DC area with the maybe two inches we got. All wheel drive, four wheel drive, quattro, 4Motion, 4Matic, whatever you call it.....if you drive like an idiot nothing will save you.

Me and my Escape did just fine (and better then some). Though I could have used the heated seats. :)

but surely an SUV like the X5 (as in a road biased one) is always going to be worse than a plain wagon? what has the X5 got that a 530xi for example doesn't have? a 5er has a bigger boot, it's quicker (comparitively), more fuel efficient, handles better...the X5...well it can...umm.....do nothing better than the 5er...and if you need 7 seats mercedes does a very nice 7 seat e class.

I think it's X5 vs. Q7 vs. GL, EL34. The GL is the magazines' favorite, the Q7 is the magazines' style/luxury/performance leader, and the X5 is the public's favorite.

i ALMOST agree with gogo for once! (it must be getting close to freezing in Hell!)

but on the other hand, it should be recognized that the vast majority of suv buyers do NOT go off pavement (intentionally anyway! ;) )

that wasn't a review at all - i agree with it being a nice car, but that showed a pure BMW side to the story. I'd love to know how much they paid 001 to do that!

The new X5 has only completed the uglification of the BMW line. Here in Chicago I see quite a few idiots driving like maniacs in the snow. I saw a range rover down in a ditch the other day after the genius who was driving drove it right off the road like a fool. AWD and four wheel drive systems offer a false sense of security. I drive a v8 mercedes convertible and when you drive like youi have sense its just fine.

WOW, I was undecided between BMW X5 and Audi Q7, but after seeing that silver X5, I am getting the X5. The kidney grill looks good, now if all the other BMW's had that grill, I would have gone back to BMW a lot sooner. Great Review 001.

And I love the new X5.
I'm debating still between Q7 and X5.
IMO both are beautiful.
But the best overall SUV is the RANGE ROVER.

The Toyota Landcruiser is outdated.
But it sure is popular outside the U.S. I saw countless of them on my business trip to Dubai.
I love the Range Rover because of its unique styling, luxury. I would definately lease one. Never buy one due to horrendous reliablilty.
