First Drive: BMW 3-Series Convertible by MSN UK Cars

You just don’t mess with a winning formula on a whim. If, like BMW, you have a history of building stylish convertibles it takes a lot of nerve and good reason to change the recipe.
But even BMW couldn’t afford to ignore progress, so the new fourth generation 3-Series Convertible gets a folding hard top. Okay, the idea of a folding metal roof may seem old hat now, but BMW’s direct rivals still use a fabric top for a very good reason. Cloth tops pack down tightly, leaving more space in the Mercedes CLK and Audi A4 Cabriolet for passengers and their luggage. Has BMW managed to crack the problem as well as Volvo has in the C70, let alone matching up to its German adversaries?

Not a big surprise, but I'm agreeing with Will. It just doesnt look right as a hard top convertible. Now top down, it's the best thing since Bangle started messing around in Bavaria. But top up it suffers from the same design flaws as most other hartops (SC430 included) It looks ungainly and ill-proportioned. Why can't., in 2007, a convertible maker deisgn a fabric top that has the safety and practicality of a hard top? Am I asking the impossible? Are we cursed with the future of all our convertibles being hardtops? Well, if so, I hope more of them look like the Volvo C70, not like this Bimmer.

Who's this moron trying to pose as 'S4'? You would think he's a German car fan but I notice he goes on to say that the 3-series sucks compared to its Japanese rivals.

"DookietooSmelly" if you don't want the 3er on your screen, don't click on it. You obviously have some ridiculous grudge against BMW as you claim the top of it’s class 3-series is the worse convertible/coupe one the road.

My question to you is...what’s that make the Mustang coupe & convertible then? Last time I checked the 3er outdoes the Mustang in virtually EVERYTHING!

I hate to agree but...it true, you can't compare the Mustang with 3 series bro!. The car that I see having a shot at the new M3 is Lexus IS-F and maybe C-class AMG.
