What is the Coolest Tech Car of 2006?

I would say for an all out rocket with tech it would
be the Mercedes-Benz S-class S65 AMG.

Why?

It is rather difficult to answer this question. Even the most advanced car is not that technologically advanced relative to many other industries. Within the automobile industry, the most popular trend has been applying computer technologies to vehicles and transforming the driver/car interface into something resembling a personal computer.

There has also been the push for increased driver assistance technologies. Most of which are based upon adaptive cruise control technologies. The Lexus LS utilizes this along with a computer and cameras to parallel park the device. While this technology is novel in its application to a production vehicle, it really is not practical yet as the space has to be a gaping 23 ft. long.

Lastly, there are power train technologies, but the technologies of the internal combustion engine and transmissions really are at a standstill. The last significant change in the functioning of the internal combustion engine is selective cylinder usage based upon need. This has been around for several years; the Jag V8 does it and I am sure quite a few other companies have similar technologies. Even that is not a fundamental technological advance though. At this point the BMW Hydrogen 7 is neither novel nor practical. BMW admits that Hydrogen powered cars are still as much as 30 years away, and the technology for hydrogen power has existed for quite some time and there is a reason you don’t see it in cars. Its funny, how articles will tell you that this technology whilst not only cleaner will stop our dependence on oil [read hydrocarbons]. I don’t know where exactly these people believe the hydrogen comes from, but it does not come from water. Hydrogen in water is oxidized: basically water is “burned” hydrogen. Breaking the oxygen bonds and restoring hydrogen to a combustible usable form returning hydrogen requires a lot of energy. Literally what you are doing, it taking the emissions of hydrogen car and attempting to refine it back into the fuel. Obviously, the laws of thermodynamics come in and make nobody’s life easier. The hydrogen for hydrogen fueled cars is stripped off of carbon chains in natural gas.

I would say though, what I have read about the Bugatti Veyron leads me to believe that some of the technology in it is both novel and practical at least to the functioning of the device, and so it should be in there. The rest though, from what I know about them, are just the application of existing technologies in most cases.

Will, Mercedes already offers a useful parking assist called "apaarktronic System" and it works.

The Lexus parking assist is worthless.

Real drivers don't need a little electric power window motor to help them turn the steering wheel.

Will, the steering wheel is right in front of you and anyone that can't park a car should have their drivers license revoked.

Come on Will, you really think the self park feature is worthy of such praise? You make it sound like it has revolutionized the industry. Its a feature you will NEVER use. Reality Check...it parks your car in a never-to-be-found 23 foot space when the majority of spaces are typically just pull-in pull-out.

Lexus spent a boatload to get it to work, even more to market it to convince people like you they NEED it, and all it does is PARK your car; sometimes. This is your technology of the year? But again, what else has Lexus introduced that you can jump up and down about? If anything I would talk more about the technology of reliability..thats what impresses me about Lexus, and that alone...

Non-production, but still cool and very trick is the Stanford University VW Touareg entry in DARPA. Drivers need not apply.

I would think a 750 would have more tech toys than an M6 (besides the engine).....

The MB S55 has an night vision called "Night View Assist".

It's there when you're driving at night with no street lights and some punks put a sofa in the middle of the street or a ladder flew off a pickup truck because yahoo didn't tie it down or maybe a mother duck and her babies are crossing the road.

Mercedes-Benz is always thinking ahead of the pack of wannabes.

I would take any of those cars on the list, besides the ones that my car is already nicer than, of course.

This is stupid,because the LS600hL has not even been released as a production vehicle until mid 2007,there is no Acura in this world that can even come close to the technology of Lexus!!!

I have to say that the Bugatti Veyron is at the top here followed by the Lexus LS 600hL, MB S600, BMW Hydrogen 7, Audi R8, MB E320 Bluetec, and the rest.

Will - Caddilac's night vision was crap....and displayed the image on the windshield which blinded the driver causing numerous fatalities. Benz perfected the technology and took it ten steps forward.

i would say BMW 7 Hydrogene.. why? Because it has a tech no body else is showing. Then I would proably say the Tesla... again no one else has it.. but to me the BMW is more so because its brand new tech.. no one else is doing one AT THE MOMENT.. Lexus-- nope.. Aucra--nope MB-- nope. But thats my thougths..
