Japan Steals the Show in "Most Reliable Cars in Britain" Survey

Japanese cars are the most reliable motors on the market, according to a new study. Mazda and Honda top the list with less than nine per cent of their vehicles suffering a mechanical fault over a year.
In all, Japan boasts seven of the top ten manufacturers with Toyota third followed by Mitsubishi. Korean carmaker Kia – which will be offering an unprecedented seven-year / 150,000 mile warranty on its hotly anticipated Cee’d – came fifth, followed by Subaru, Nissan and Lexus - it may come as a shock to some to find out that over 20% of Lexi suffer a mechanical fault in the first year - better than its rivals, but below expectations.
The only non-Asian car companies to make the top ten were Mini and Citroen, who came ninth and tenth respectively. This is a big suprise as Citroen's used to be regarded as the least reliable, along with other French makes.
Sitting at the foot of the reliability table are two of the world’s biggest 4x4 manufacturers.
The research by Warranty Direct found more than 44 per cent of all Land Rovers suffered a mechanical failure in a year with Jeep faring worse – over 46 per cent had a fault during the same period.

how much of mazda is Ford? Why would Mazda be more reliable than Ford? I thought they used almost the same engines and architecture.

No surprise, but in the top ten most reliable CARS (in Britain) list, both the A4 and 3 Series (in that order) were ahead of the Lexus IS, although all of them were on the list. There was also a VW on the list if I remember correctly. The Golf, I'm sure.

Here's to all of you pro-German car fans. I've been telling you for months that the cars we are proud to drive in the U.S. today (i.e. Toyota, Lexus, Honda, etc.) would make it big in Europe. I know it didn't say that they were successful, but the first step to success is trust and respect, something these automakers are gaining from European buyers. It won't be long before Toyota, Lexus, and Honda are internationally recognized. Toyota and Honda for extreme reliability, and Lexus for superb quality.
