More To Play With: Mercedes Introduces Optional New AMG Performance Package For The E63 AMG

Mercedes has announced today that customers looking to add a little extra spice to the already sultry E63 AMG are in luck, with the company introducing an optional AMG performance package for the 514 horsepower saloon. Designed to enhance the handling dynamics, motorsport potential and individuality of the model, the AMG performance package consists of 18" five-spoke AMG alloy wheels painted sterling silver; AMG performance suspension with firmer tuning, based on AIRMATIC DC; multi-disc rear locking differential with 40% locking effect, providing more traction when accelerating out of corners; and an AMG ergonomic sports steering wheel in leather/black Alcantara along with silver-colored shift paddles.

If you're interested, pricing for the AMG performance package (in Europe) weighs in at EUR 7,140, including 19% VAT.

Enhanced motorsport potential and customisation ex factory: AMG performance package for the E 63 AMG

A special AMG performance package will shortly be available ex factory for the sporty 378 kW/514 hp E 63 AMG Saloon. It comprises various technical components which significantly enhance the handling dynamics, the motorsport potential and the individuality of this model. The performance package was developed at the AMG PERFORMANCE STUDIO in Affalterbach and the vehicles are built at the DaimlerChrysler production plant in Sindelfingen.

The performance package will be available for the E 63 AMG Saloon from March 2007.

The performance package at a glance:

18-inch 5-spoke multipiece AMG alloy wheels, painted sterling silver, front wheels size 8.5 x 18 with 245/40 R 18 tyres, rear wheels size 9.5 x 18 with 265/35 R 18 tyres

AMG performance suspension with firmer tuning, based on AIRMATIC DC

Multi-disc rear locking differential with 40% locking effect, providing more traction when accelerating out of corners

AMG ergonomic sports steering wheel in leather/black

Using various higher-performance components, the AMG performance package for the E 63 AMG puts the accent on dynamic handling and performance. The result is a breathtaking driving experience for ambitious sports car enthusiasts who want to have the option of using their AMG performance model on closed-circuit racetracks. Customers benefit from the extensive motorsport know-how gained by Mercedes-AMG GmbH over the course of four decades. The E 63 performance package is priced at 7,140 euros (incl. 19% VAT).

The AMG PERFORMANCE STUDIO in Affalterbach can take the customisation even further, building distinctive – or even unique – vehicles on the basis of individual customer specifications.

E63 in my opinion looks so much better than the M5. The only good thing about the M5 is the sound it produces, boy is it sexy. The V8's and AMG models for Mercedes create a grunt like no other. Very unique to Mercedes.

This car and the Audi S6 / RS are aimed at totally different buyers. They might not match the M5 dynamically, but they kill it in other areas. Each car here has a particular strength that buyers look for. Enough said.

Carboy, I wasn't talking about performance. The BMW, MB and Audi are more or less all in the same boat performance wise, but it's the finer detail that distinguishes them.

Actually, it's the other way around. The M5 still looks at the rear lights of this car when jumping out of the pit. Also, this car is right there when it comes to handling. MB improved on the handling over the E55. A matter of fact the E55 (Previous version) has a better or equal 0-60 than the new M5.

This is not intended to discount the M5 in any way. It's an awesome car. My preference is touring vehicles (quite uncommon here in the USA). I'm hoping the M5 Touring comes to the USA so I can get one (it'll give me great pleasure of leaving many other wannabe's behind in this ulimate sleeper). If BMWUSA do not bring it to these shores on their own, I'm hoping that they'll give USA consumers the option of special ordering the M5 Touring.

I agree totally. It's like MB reinvented themselves. From a luxury label with a few models, to totally owning a 'unique and most desireable V8 sound' across many models. When I think MB I immediately hear that bellowing V8 sound at low revs and not the silver star + grill + plush interior.

Actually, I don't see how this is necessarily news. All these details have been on the AMG site for months. This was part of their "Performance Studios: Editions," which includes special titles for select models. :Signature Series, Black Series," etc.

Seems this "official press release" was meant to further get the word out as evidently too many were still unaware, but particularly just to add the E Class.

All they did here is announce that they added the E Class to the lineup. CLS63 was already there (amongst others), and the CLS and E are essentially the same car everywhere but cosmetically, anyway.
