Out Of Touch? Ford Loses $12.7 Billion Last Year but Executives Still Want Bonuses
The United Auto Workers is upset over the possibility that Ford Motor Co. may pay bonuses to some managers and top executives, and the issue is threatening to delay progress on competitive operating agreements at some Ford factories, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Ford says it won't make a final decision on the bonuses until March. The payouts are designed to reward progress on the company's turnaround plan.

Union leaders believe their members deserve just as much credit for whatever progress has been made. Moreover, they want to make sure Ford understands it cannot ask union members to make sacrifices at the bargaining table while it sends bonus checks to high-paid managers.

All because Ford bought out 30,000 Union workers and closing plants for restucturing.

There has been no progress. These greedy assholes should start doing their job before requesting bonus's. Shame on you

OHHH yes, they deserve bonuses for their single minded job. Screwing on bolts repeatedly or installing a damn window.

Classic American manufacturing. Unions make it so impossible we end up outsourcing or falling apart.

It's BULLSHIT, you just don't want managment to have bonuses because then your UNION fees won't be able to take out a nice cut from the workers paychecks who are already waaaaay overpaid for their lazy asses.

THIS union bullshit is the reason nothing gets done in America.

You have fruit cakes at the car plants complaining and suing you every which way. Same thing when you try to build something in real estate, you'll have these goddamn overpaid union shmucks picket your property until you hire them or call the cops in which they come back agian.

I don't like Ford but I actually feel sorry for them.

FIRE all these hobo's and outsource.

I feel like the Edge is very stylish, but offers NO substance at all. Very bland and unexciting in its engine and interior.

The Lincoln version is ugly, yes.

I think the illustrious real estate conglomerate 'El34 | Orange County' should consider purchasing the Premier Auto Group, and the rest of Ford can stagger into deeper levels of irrelevance.

Poor ford.
But you have to admit, they do make some pretty horrible products.
Their only attractive cars are the F150 and the Mustang.
Freestyle was a total disaster. Edge will follow in its footsteps.

I actually think that Ford has some great products. The Volvo line is great as is the Land Rover. Their F-150 is still the best truck on the road and if it isn't, it's only beat buy the FX50. The Fusion, Euro Focus and Mondeo SVT are fun, sporty cars that I think compete well. It's all the excess baggage that Ford carries along with them that brings them down. They need to streamline their products and manufacturing and focus on their strengths.

Bill Ford pissed away one of the largest company in the world to feed his ego and emulate Henry Ford. He failed before he got there, Ford had the best selling vehicle in the world(F150), the best selling SUV(Explorer) and one of the best selling cars(Taurus). How can a comapny fail with success such as that? Easy, bad management and it starts at the top. Next bad move was letting Bill Ford pick his successor. Also, they need to replace Mark Fields($1,000,000 of private jet rides home to Florida since the 2005 restructuring began) and Jay Mays the man that killed Ford Design. He can redesign classic(Mustang, Thunderbird, GT40) but can't come up with a decent new design much less a 4 door sedan to compete with a Camry or Accord. Look at how the Ford family runs the worst franchise in American sports(the Detroit Lions). Ford giving all USA a bad name.

Their economic challenges aside, Ford needs an exciting line. SUV's are dead and their only successful car designs have been retro. Retro only carries you so far and you have to start having success with forward designs.

Good luck Ford.

I have a lot of friends and professors on Wall Street and they all kept the root of thier problems was with leadership and bureaucracy of the Ford family. Also that Bill Ford is a horrible CEO/leader and that he should of stepped down a long time ago. He finally did the right and honorable move by stepping down.

The executives probably saw these numbers coming a long time ago and figured Mullaly should take the heat.

Ford had to layoff or get rid of all those slack @$$ Union workers and will be replacing them with state of the art robottery from the US Air Force.

Then, we'll see what the ToyLex fanboys will do when Ford makes better cars ;)

What bunch of freakin Greedy snob..........they don't gave about anybody or anyone. All they is the Benjamin bill in their pocket. I'm telling they don't gave shit if their designing team come up with something to revived Ford. Where is my bonus?...where is my bonus?$$$ Keep up greedy snob and eventually Ford run out of business and than you have no to ask for the bonus.

If you Executive snob do your job and do it will, I'm sure you get a bonus; you don't have to ask.

In my opinion, the Ford Executives just want to fill their pocket with as much money as they can. Ford might ran out of business so all this executives want to dig the last time. To bad Ford has to much Greedy Executives working for them.

I hope they figure something out soon before the Chinese and India automaker arrived. Chinese and India car probably will not be as realible as Ford but it will be cheaper.

Actually, I just heard the story Ford and the bonuses. They said they paid them the bonuses because Ford did not want to let these people go. They need the upper management to keep working if they want the company to turn around. If they didn't have these people, they won't have a way to restructure the company and make it profitable. They(the news) also mentioned that if Ford can't be made profitable by 2009, it might not be a viable enterprise anymore.
Wow, I can't imagine Ford not making cars anymore. But hey, anything can happen, right?

What about the unions? They still get their golden insurance plans, artificially high wages, protected jobs that pay full salaries - even when they aren't doing any work. The UAW is what is wrong with Ford, Chrysler, and GM. Thanks, liberals!

Chewy, you have got to be a republican? The unions are not killing the company! Ford, Republicans and the New York Stock Exchange have been killing ALL American manufacturing companies for going on 3 decades now. American stock holders ask to show a profit every quarter, where as a for instance, Japaneses stockholders invest thinking about a decade before expecting or even experiencing a return. If those companies do not show a direction of forward thinking they opt to go with a company that does show forward thinking. Anyhow, Ford, like all American based auto companies, has for decades, shoved high profit vehicles down our throats and then reported to its shareholders a nice profit, all the while losing their share of the whole market. They could not invest heavily in new product, because that would knock down their profit projections when reporting to stockholders. This of course meant that they would keep reinventing the same old junk, over and over again, by reusing old chassis and engines and door latches and the list goes on. Ford and every American auto manufacturer deserve what they are getting. The folks that work for them deserve much better, including management! As for bonuses; if Ford has any chance of survival, they need to keep good management by paying bonuses, then so be it. I am sick and tired of hearing that it is mostly the sacrafices of it's workers that is ultimately responsible for Ford staying afloat. Most in management have a minimum of a BA for education and most auto workers have a minimum of a high school diploma. They are the paid brains of the outfit and education equals, money and power. I have never known it to be any other way?

I do have a comment for ReardenMetal. If you are a conservative, then you are an idiot and seriously mis-guided! Because of our governments efforts to bust our unions and not give any voice to the working middle-class and the people that do not even own our American companies, but are entrusted to run and turn a profit with them, have sent, almost our entire manaufacuring base overseas. Who do you think profited from that? THE MIDDLE CLASS perhaps? Remember, no representation, means no jobs for any of us.
