Ouch!: Porsche Meets Bird at 155mph

You are living the dream, running full tilt on the German Autobahn in your new Porsche. Avoiding the errant Fiat or two at half your speed keeps your concentration unbroken. Until out of the blue a bird crosses your path making an aerial assault, and smack, you have carnage like this. A site like this makes you really appreciate safety glass.

Crazy!

I would have thought the bird would have been deflected a bit more and really penetrated the glass like that.

That must have been pretty scary.

I was driving on the North 405 Freeway near South Coast Plaza when I saw a bouncing rock about the size of a softball and it slammed into my windshield on the passenger side shattering an area a little bigger than the rock, it was scary for a second. It bounced over the car next to me landing harmlessly to the side of the freeway.

Well if there's any consolation to the bird, he hit the car with the same amount of force the car hit the bird... (too bad the car didn't feel it as much)

Boxster S....I'm guessing is what it is...

Top speed is close to 170mph, but I think its limited to 155mph..

Infact, I think the standard Boxster does 160mph...so it really could have been either...

Yah, there's a "gentleman's agreement" between Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche (the four big German luxury names), saying that they all have to limit their cars to 155mph.

However, on a few models, Porsche doesn't have the limiter, you can pay extra to take it out of a Mercedes, and the new Audi R8 can reach 187mph.
