n a word, no. Or more accurately, it doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell. The left-hand-drive only Escalade is like one of those misleading on-line dating descriptions – it all reads well but, in real life, it’s all horribly wrong.

The ingredients are promising. There’s a single top-spec, one-model line-up, imposing chrome-laden styling, a sumptuous interior, mighty 409bhp V8 engine, six-speed auto and a name that carries a high degree of cultural awareness. When you're dring to Las Vegas with 5 the Escalade is the way to go, but if your're with one person the Mercedes CL would be nice.

do americans now understand why i hate this car?
and the trunk area is stupid, the interior rubbish, the looks questionable (in europe) the mpg horrific, (17.4 uk mpg! that's like 14 US! see what having a different mpg test can do?) 105 mph? rubbish, and 50000 quid.

The new CTS could do well in Europe. The Escalade just sort of feels like rolling Bush through cobbelstone streets in a gigantic cart. Its just utterly wrong there.

Precisely my point, for Europeans it’s the size of a barge, drinks fuel like Mel Gibson at a cocktail party and costs almost as much a S550.

For Americans it fits on our streets, in our parking garages, shopping malls and the McDonalds drive through. It also goes very fast on our primarily straight large roads while drinking lots of lightly taxed gas. Most importantly it looks great when its valet parked in front of a restaurant. (resulting in a shorter walk of course)

Well...i do think they understand it, they just dont like it :) like most other US cars exported to the euro market. Why would they bother to buy a car like this unless their gangsta rapper wannabees... I personnalylike the styling of it, but havent driven it, and prolly never will

Oh I just can't help myself, I just have to do this............

This is exactly why Cadillac, and products like it (Lexus) do not sell well in Europe or anywhere else outside of the US. We are the only ones dumb enough to accept these things as personal transportation.

lexus does pretty good outside of north america. iv'e been to europe and south arabia and iv'e seen many lexus's. in south arabia i saw more lexus than bmw and audi. becuase over there its filled with lexus and MB. only in the rich towns though.

Angry, angry, angry! British journalists are so hate-filled!

I must point out something. The Range Rover Sport most definitely does not mask its vast weight any better than the 'Slade. There's nothing "sporty" about it. Trucky handling, trucky ride; good looks got it where it is. Go buy a real Range Rover.

Also, I pity the Europeans who have to get Escalades with those horrible rear lights. Ours has conventional lights:

I've driven it. Compared to the wife's RX330, it's heavy and truck-like. The "Sport" suffix is ridiculous.

Couldn't they just have called it the "Range Rover for Less-Rich People"?

Oh and, by the way- I drove a friend's RR Sport Supercharged, not just the normal verison, though I did drive the HSE at my local dealer last year.
