This is an early introduction, makes me wonder what they have up their sleeves for the hybrid. That picture is from Lexus' website which is only showing the 2007 model. I'd like like to see what the new changes look like. It only makes sense for Lexus to upgrade the RX since the new Highlander is on the way. SO that means 2-3 more years with this generation, enough time for them to make a business case for upgrading the hybrid. How about RX450h???

I don't think the RX is the best-looking car in this class, and my wife has one. It's nice, but it's definitely gotten on in the years.

I would have to say that honor goes to the RR Sport. It may not be as reliable, blah blah bah, but I'm talking about looks and looks alone.

In its class I think the honor goes to the X5 3.0si - I even think the exterior of the FX has the aesthetic edge over the RX (apparently I dig the space agey curvacious look). I think the RR is the the SUV to have, but starting at about twenty grand more than the Lexus, the two are in completely different classes regarding looks, price, and performance. In the premium segment, though, you can't beat the bang-for-buck ratio that Lexus offers.

The Lexus RX 350 is a rebadged Toyota Hilander which is a rebadged Camry which is a stretched Corolla.

EL34 is an Elongated version of a woulda been 4th grader, which is an extended version of a 3rd grader, who flunked out of ELementary school, after just barely getting by last year.

Nicely (re)styled (while a bit boring now) Toyota Highlander. But it isn't bad, it is just an entry level luxury vehicle.

I'm scared as to what it will look like with chrome door handles, but I'm glad they're finally giving it better wheels.

BTW, 2008 fuel economy ratings kick in. I believe this is the first vehicle with the new 2008 fuel economy ratings. It seems Lexus has decided not to publish the fuel economy ratings for the Hybrid, I wonder why?

2 wheel drive was 20 city and 25 higway with 22 combined, it is 18 city and 23 highway now.

4 wheel drive was 19 city and 24 higway with 21 combined, it is 17 city and 22 highway now, with 19 mpg combined now.

they didnt release the hybrid mpg because the hybrid will not be getting the refresh. maybe later in april. It will still be sold as a 2007 model until then

There is no refresh, Lexus just doesn't want to sell an 08 hybrid as it would have drastically lower fuel economy because it won't be able to cheat the epa test anymore.

thats not something you should hate lexus for. its all from a business standpoint. also, why are you picking on the lexus hybrids, what about the FORD ones and the HONDA ones huh?

where are you getting the info that there will be no '08 hybrid. If Lexus is doing a refresh now that should mean 2 more years of this generation. Surely 2 yeas w/out a hybrid would be long time. It was selling well.

I like how it looks, but i think there is a huge space between the grill and the bottom of the bumper. Anyway nice vehicle.

I was actually in an RX yesterday. It was luxurious and very quiet. It had all the options needed to be a luxury SUV. Too small for my liking though but it seemed well built with comfortable seating plus leather and wood. I wouldn't buy it simply because of it's size and it's target buyer. Females..

However, for the price I would probably go for an FX instead.

It does feel well-built when you buy it, but like most Lexi, some of the cheapness shows through after using it for a few years. A couple panels (albeit small ones) have broken off of the interior in my wife's car. It's been good to us, however.

EL34, the RX isnt a rebadge highlander. Its another another called the Harrier, and believe ive seen one before in japan.

And S4cabrio, Im sure the RR sport is a great car and looks good, but its what? $30,000 more than the RX? Not many people would want to spend 70 grand to buy a SUV and not go offroad. The RX wasnt made to go offroad or go fast.

the rx and highlander are both based off the camry.

The Range Rover Sport HSE starts at $56,000, standard with a 300hp V8, navigation system, 19" rims, xenons, sunroof, heated seats, dual climate, of course AWD...

With all those things, except the V8 and 19" rims (V6 and 18s for the RX), a comparable RX350 is much closer to $50K than its $38K base price (FWD) suggests.

And the Harrier isn't on sale any more, as many Lexus fans will painstakingly point out.

I think after years of wear and tear Audi may hold up better. Anything after that could be Mercedes, BMW, or Lexus. Who knows sometimes the parts just fall off just because. I've said this before, some apples do rot during it's production stage. Not all are perfect so it's a YES and NO answer for any brand. It's all dependant on its handler or owner. It's really subjective as well. However first glance, first touch, first ride the RX350 was full of torque, luxurious, quiet. However like S4cab said his wifes Lexus had some failures however it's still treated them well overall.

look at the Frequency of Repair records that CR publishes. at EIGHT years of age, toyotas and lexi remain in better shape than ANY german car less than half as old.

even american cars hold up better than german iron.

interesting that the prices for 2008 are same as 2007. lack of pricing power indicates weaking sales.
