These idiots are missing the point! Subaru's are not remotely meant to compete with these cars. This is the closest street legal car you can get from the legendary rally bred version! It has a niche and cult status!

The Impreza is something else! It is the cream of the crop! these guys expect a rally bred car with bucket seats and handling that would put BMW to shame to have the luxury of the AUDI, LEXUS & BMW, they have completely missed the point!

Why is it you guys can't correctly read something this simple? The article is written to put the big ones (Audi, BMW, Lexus) to shame, not to down the WRX.

The WRX is completely different in character and market position to the 3-series, A4 et al.

While the Subaru has AWD, a turbo-charged engine and good handling, it loses out with its bargain-basement interior, cheap materials, tinny body panels and uncomfortable and jiggly ride.

Basically, the WRX has driver thrills, but is lightyears behind the A4, 3-series etc. when it comes to everything else.

Subaru makes some pretty horrible interiors. Although the fun-to-drive factor is probably on par with the 3 series, refinement and everything else is on par with a Dodge Neon.
If I were to get an AWD vehicle for under $25k, it would be a subaru. Over $25k, I'd pick quattro.

Yes, a Ford Mustang is also fast and cheap.

Well the Legacy is a nice car no doubt, but it is laughable that you think a good interior can be based on how many gizmos it has (heated seats etc.).

Wrong. The Legacy's interior is well-made, but nothing special. The plastics are a grade below Audis, while some of the design details are a bit tacky, typical for a Japanese car.

Guys, this comparo isnt about how luxurious the impreza wrx is. Its the bang for buck factor. There isnt really many other cars that can give this much for its price. All of you are saying its far behind in the interior, well if it were more upscale to begin with it would cost so much like the German cars. I think Subaru made a great car with the WRX, so please stop commenting that "oh the car has low rent interior... i need leather this, aluminum that for a performance car".

I drive a bmw but am a scobby fanboy. 22b impreza is still my wet dream.

Well what i drive is irrelevant, but its a 96 LS400. Dont get me wrong, I do like German cars (simply cause they have much better choices at luxury performance cars). But id buy the Subaru for sheer performance. A Audi/Bimmer for luxury performance cars.

Do you honestly think that if no one could tell the difference between quality plastic/leather and the cheaper stuff, manufacturers would put the extra effort into their high-end cars?

The Legacy is a step in the right direction for Subaru, however performance aside, it isn't the high-quality item that you are making it out to be.

I think people don't see the real point.They always come with Japanese "supercars" vs German premiums.Think for 1 minute.What if BMW or Audi decide to create a car and invest ONLY in the engine performance and NOT focusing at all on the quality of materials and design.Couldn't they make a "Cheap supercar"???The answer is obvious.I think brands like Subaru would get extinct.The hardest thing is to make a beautifull car with luxury interior and powerfull engine and the easiest thing is to take a cheap horrible car (The standard Impreza) and put some spoilers and a powerfull engine.i can take any cheap car and tune it so it'll be faster that an M3 or RS4 but it will never be a better car,not from my point of view anyway.

Your 'bang for buck' idea holds water, and I for one can see your point. Subaru does offer a lot of performance for relatively little money.

However, this 'bang for buck' cannot possibly make a car 'better', in objective terms. You obviously wonder where all that money went on that Audi A4 V6 when your WRX can leave it for dead at the stoplight, for much less moolah.

I think your performance-oriented preferences (no bad thing) have made you unaware (or at least diminished the importance) of other qualities people look for in a car. Qualities such as safety, stability, quality, solidity, refinement, styling, the overall 'feel' of the car and the attention to detail seen in all components, from the headlights to the wing mirrors.

Subaru skimps heavily on these other factors, with tinny doors, cheap plastics used throughout the car, thinner paint, exposed engine components, lack of attention to detail, and the overall feeling of 'economy car'. Performance aside, the Impreza and Forester are cheap (in every sense) cars.

You can boast about their performance and I will agree with you, but when you call them 'better' than the more expensive competition, I'm sorry, but you are wrong.

Ah yes, the Legacy and Tribeca have scored very highly in crash tests. Good on them.

The funny thing is that Subaru is not even trying to compete with the premium brands.They build cars for people who want low cost performance.The idiotic thing is that those people really thing their rides are competing with the premiums and that's pathetic.If the majority of people would think as you do it means that the premium brands should go bankrupt.The reality is different though.The premium brands are selling more and the "Cheap&Good" sell less so we can draw two conclusions and we only get to choose one:
1.The big majority of people is stupid and people who buy Fast & Cheap cars are smart.
2.The big majority of people is smart and Fast & Cheap buyers are dumb enough to think they're driving a premium car. (I'll bet on #2)
