One win won't get my respect. They need to win CHAMPIONSHIPS, and lot's of them. Anyone can win a race, but it takes a number of race victories to win a championship. I can applaud them for the win, but they'll get my respect once they win some championships and some "real races". I'm talking about Formula One style racetracks or the Panamericana race course in the Mexican mountains etc.

Oh, and Renlex, if you'd take your head out of your stupid ass, you'd know that BMW has won a lot of championships, races, events etc., just like Mercedes and a number of old school European brands. Moreover, these brands had racecars that were innovative and technologically advanced for their time. The Lexus Daytona racecars are none of that.

Could you please jot down all the races you think are meaningful and forward that along to Lexus HQ?

I don't want Lexus to waste their time winning stuff that won't earn your respect.

If you had read my statement, I said that a single race victory doesn't get my respect. I never said I can respect Lexus for winning a race, in fact, I offered them my kudos.

But let's face it. NASCAR is an American race, and there's nothing exciting about watching a bunch of cars going around in circles overtaking each other here and there - or maybe it's just me.

Now, how many people actually watch NASCAR? Last I checked, the "educated" people of America were hardly interested in this sport. NASCAR always has been something of a "common man's" motorsport experience. NASCAR isn't necessarily watched by Lexus target market. Get what I am saying?

I'm a history professor and I like history, also automotive history. The great race tracks are tracks like Spa in Belgium, the Nurnberg Ring, Monza, Suzuka, Silverstone, Hockenheim and many more. The great races are the Carrera Panamericana Mexico, the Alpen Race. These are all races which really test the endurance of man and machine, especially the Carrera Panamericana Mexico. Lexus main rival, Mercedes-Benz set a world record there in a 300SL that until this day has remained unbeaten. THIS creates part of the prestige for a brand and makes it appealing. These are international and respected tracks. The world doesn't care about NASCAR. If Lexus wants to make it big, they need to move towards the international racing scene, not some domestic racing series which half of the United States doesn't even watch, nor care about.

and finally, even with all that advanced engineering, toyota/lexus engines and electronics are NOT FUSSY, like on some other pretentious brands.

the average EIGHT YEAR OLD toyota or lexus will still remain not as, but MORE reliable and trouble free than most other brands' cars only HALF as old.

i respect toyota more than you would think. despite my ignorant post above, i look up to their engine technology *esp. performance hybrid tech) and (of course) their incredible manufacturing processes that have revolutionized manufacturing in general.

Another typical finish for the Lexus team in Rolex racing. Toyota/(Lexus) does a fine job prepping and winning in this series. They could school the f1 Team with the in's and outs of how to build a successful effort and win consistently. hats off to them in winning a grueling race.

Perhaps you should take another look at Toyota motorsports as a whole. They have championships in many forms of racing, especially endurance racing. Their CART and IndyCar programs did well and they'll get it right in F1 soon.

At Le Mans, their GT racer was the fastest car over sustained stretches than we've seen in years. Even off-road truck racing (including endurance) they are the most dominant powerplant ever.

Lexus is simply a marketing arm for their luxury division. Make no mistake; that V8 is the same engine Toyota has perfected for years.

And it wasn't "one race."

While you weren't looking or minding what you;re saying, Lexus won this same 24 hour hard-charger last year, too.

Irrespective of your personal impression of him, he's one super racecar driver and it shows. He did more dicing, passing and race-crafting than any of the leaders and he is essentially who gave them the win.

let us not forget the role Chip Gnassi´s team played in this win.

last time I was with Juan in 2002 with Gnassi CART team in Japan he was a nice guy.
