VW and Porsche building hybrid SUVs
New plans will see VW offer a hybrid version of the Touareg SUV as its first model with the fuel-saving technology. The hybrid drivetrain, which will be sourced from parts supplier Bosch, is also likely to feature in the all-new Porsche Cayenne, which is based on the same platform as the Touareg.

Meanwhile, Porsche boss Wendelin Wiedeking has confirmed the two companies are developing their next generation models of the Touareg and Cayenne with an expected launch date in 2010.

#1: Wasn't Weideking just replaced by a Porsche family member?

#2: Audi will build a hybrid variant of the Q7, too. Seen the concept car?

Toyota is very quietly backing away from its hybrid in every platform stance they were pushing a couple years ago.

COme on all you hybrid-hating diesel worshippers. Where's your outrage? I guess that's only applicable when it's a Toyota hybrid. Okay VW and Porsche, go ahead and outsource your first hybrid motors while Toyota works on the Gen III Synergy drive.

Hey! how no one is making fun of them for trying to make hybrid vechicle. Oh..my bad, maybe because it a German car not Japanese. If it were Toyota they would bitch and complain all day long.

It okay...Toyota understand that VW and Porches want to copy them. What do you expect?

Actually I hope Porsche will raid the Cayenne parts bin for hybrid parts. Can you say "C4S" with no more front drivetrain but a set of compact electric motors instead, all nicely coupled to PASM/PSM electronics. Absolutely bulletproof AWD capabilities that would FAR exceed anything they can do with a conventional drivetrain.
