The new rage: Glass wheels

They are manufactured by D'Vinci and are their Forgiato Radurra series. Each rim is $2,000. They are made from polycarbonate, and actually from what I gleaned are actually in a situation where they are technically "tempered". Glass [and most products like it] only breaks in tension. Tempered windows are made by basically laminating 3 sheets of a similar polymer of glass material together, but the middle one is acutally smaller than the outer two. They are laminated such that teh middle section pulls the outer two into compression. If you want to break it you must overcome the compression then put the window in tension.

I hope there is no Lexan [the material in bulletproof glass] in these. Little known fact: Lexan is inbrittled by acetone. You may not be able to shoot through it, but take nail polish remover to it and you can break it even with your hand. [Compliments of Dr. Eberhard and his book "Why Things Break"]

I will say they are very interesting, although I wouldn't really want them on my car.

Pretty much, yes. It would be very similar to the polymer-based Lexan. But like glass materials, these would fail only in tension.

...Actually it the company's name is Forgiato, that isn't the model. Sorry.

I am not sure about you, but this is actually the first time I have seen these rims.

I have to say that I like it, I like it a lot. The price may be high, but for those that can buy the Merc, it won't be a problem.

To get this type of wheels you'll need new rotors (cross-drilled type) and better looking brake calipers. I am saying this because many people like to put big expensive wheels on ugly old cars with no value.

That car will be on bricks the second you turn away.

Now that's cool idea...I'd only put these on a car like an S-Class or a truck like an Escalade. Probably expect these to be in & out as the next big thing since spinners, courtesy of your latest rap videos.

i dunno,but i kind of like it.. only if you have some damn good looking brakes like those brembos.
